Dragon sighed to herself a bit as she noticed that Vera had not heeded the command that she had given to her. As simple as the command was, and as much as Vera seemed capable of understanding such a command, it seemed as though that the command needed to be elaborated on a bit for full understanding to take hold.
"No, Vera, that's not what I wanted you to do," Dragon said as she came back over to meet the black Fiero before she could finish walking over to her. "I did not want you to follow me. I wanted you to stay where you were."
Vera tilted her head the other way at her alpha. She gave another hoarse huff, as if to ask why her alpha wanted her to stay while she was moving away. Didn't her alpha like having her with her?

"You definitely seem confused..." Dragon said now. "And rightfully so, probably, especially with how I have wanted you by my side for just about everything we have ever done together."
Vera nodded her head at this. Indeed, for just about everything, they were together, her alpha being the leader, and she being the loyal beta, ready to be by her side and protect her if there was ever a need. Why would would her alpha want it to be any different?
Dragon nodded back. "Well, now I'm going to teach you how I would like you to be for when we are separated, alright? For someone as wonderfully smart and understanding as you, I'm sure you will be able to understand where I'm coming from with this and be able to trust me with what I want you to do, regardless of what you might personally feel about it, alright?"

Vera hesitated, cocking an ear to the side after listening to her alpha's words. She knew her alpha was a much higher rank than her, and that her word might as well be considered law if she was much more strict about her rank. However, Vera admired her more for how wise she was, making more suggestions and requests than actual commands. The commands were more for when stakes were high and haste was key.
"Do you trust me, Vera?" Dragon repeated now.
Vera gave a hoarse sigh before she nodded. Of course she trusted her alpha. She took her in, she raised her, trained her to be the best fighter she could possibly be, but then she was separated for holy things who knows, not once, but twice. She didn't want to be separated from her alpha, or her pack, again, but she had to trust her alpha.

Dragon nodded again. "Good," she said with a smile. "I always knew you were the best for anything, girl." Her smile widened a bit as she gently massaged Vera's featureless face a bit. Vera let out a low rumble of pleasure.
"Okay, back to business, Vera," Dragon said now, breaking contact with her face and taking a few steps away from her, but still facing her nonetheless. Vera whimpered a bit in protest to the nice massages stopping, but she stood up straighter and gave her alpha her full attention afterward, ears pricked forward and waiting for instructions.
"I want you to stay where you are, right in this very spot," Dragon said now. "You can do whatever you want to make yourself more comfortable, but whatever you do, don't leave this spot. Don't follow me, don't go looking for me, okay?"

Vera flattened her ears a bit now, hesitating for a moment. She knew that her alpha was serious about this, but what if she got hurt or something while she was away? She knew that the war between them and that huge monster was over, and that peace had regained its hold on the world, but what if something new cropped up?
Dragon could sense the hesitation in Vera's expression, as limited as it was for something so featureless. She flattened her own ears a bit, reminding herself that Vera was probably still suffering from her separation anxiety that she ended up with as a result of that war with the Mother Dragon. It could not be helped though; if Vera was to be independent on her own again, then this was crucial to that.
Eventually, though, Vera nodded her head, realizing that she would have to put her anxiety aside to follow her alpha's commands.

Dragon nodded back. "Okay then, girl," she said now. "Stay." Then like that, she turned around and walked away.
Vera watched her go, flattening her ears a bit more and whining hoarsely, wanting desperately to follow her, but knowing full well that that would be disobeying her alpha, and her alpha would not want her most trusted beta to do that to her. She gritted her teeth a bit as she watched the blob of heat that her alpha was giving off get smaller and smaller as the distance between them grew. Eventually, she looked down and gave a hoarse sigh, but then when she looked up, she could no longer sense her alpha's heat. She was gone.
Vera's ears shot up at the realization that she could no longer sense her alpha's presence. She was gone, completely off her radar!

This was bad, this was really, really bad! What was she going to do? Alphas did not disappear just like that! That would... That would be impossible! They could not fly, they could not hear very well, they... they could not do as much as someone like her kind could! So surely she would be able to see where her alpha was? She had heat vision for holy freaking things' sake!
Vera tucked her tail tightly between her legs as her ears flattened again, a submissive gesture she would never let herself do in front of anyone, even if she was feeling like this deep down. Her legs were quaking underneath her, and her breathing became heavy as panic tried to take hold. She had to find her... She had to find her alpha! Disappearing like that was just not normal... maybe for a highly skilled member of her kind, but certainly not for an alpha!

Vera swallowed before she sat down, as if to try and keep her legs from shaking so much. It did little to help though. So instead, she laid down, but that only made the rest of her body quake. She had to go find her alpha... what if something happened to her? But... No. Her alpha told her to stay here. She had to trust her alpha, and her alpha trusted her to remain where she was, not to move away from this spot or to even think about going out to look for her. She'll be back soon... Very soon... Hopefully...
Seconds turned to minutes... Minutes turned to hours... Gah, this was hard, really hard. Why wasn't her alpha back by now? It's been... a really long time, she knew that. Heck, the sun was barely up over the horizon when they first started, but now... Now this was just ridiculous.

Vera stood up again now, instinct telling her to ignore her alpha's orders to go find her. Really, her alpha should not have been gone for that long. But at the same time though... Her alpha told her to say here. She trusted her to stay here. What if she left to go find her alpha, but her alpha returned only to see that her most trusted Fiero could not trust that, especially after pretty much telling her that she had?
Vera sighed again and looked down, ears flat. She must do what her alpha says, no matter how she personally felt about it. Her alpha had always tried to be there for her to help her and make her happy, rarely asking for something like that, and Vera wanted to do what she could to make her happy too, and if that meant staying put in this very spot, then so be it.

"You know, you're a really hard person to hide from, Vera," an all too familiar voice suddenly sounded from behind Vera.
Vera's ears shot up at hearing them, before she turned around to face whoever said that. There, standing right before her, was none other than her dear alpha. She couldn't believe it. Not trusting her heat sensor, her long tongue snaked out from her mouth and her eye opened. Yep, sure enough, it was her alpha. But... how the hell did she get behind her? Surely she would have noticed if she had moved!
Dragon grinned faintly. "Your ability to sense heat is outstanding. Absolutely no one who I have met or heard of could be able to do that and use it as a way of becoming familiar with your surroundings. But, it can only do so much. You can see things in dark areas and even see through tall grass and other shrubbery, but you must learn to employ the rest of what senses you do have, i.e., your ears." Dragon tapped on of her own ears lightly with a smile.

Vera cocked an ear to the side at this, still confused as to how she was able to disappear that fast. Dragon only grinned. "Are you still confused on how I was able to hide from you like that and avoid your ability to sense heat, I take it?" she asked. Vera nodded.
"Heh, it was rather simple, really," she said. "I hid behind a rock. Rocks are cold. Because of that, you can't really see them as well since they don't pop up on your radar much. All I had to do was hide behind something cold, and then boom, you can no longer see me. The only reason for why I'm behind you is because I took advantage of the fact that you weren't using the rest of your senses. Let this be a lesson to you in the future."

Vera slowly nodded now, feeling bad for panicking like she had. Dragon only smiled and rubbed her face. "Hey, you did good, better than I expected you to, even." Vera's ears pricked up at hearing that. Then Dragon took out a good sized chunk of meat. "Here, take this, you've earned it."
Vera's tail wagged as she took the meat and chewed on it thoughtfully.
"I promise I won't be gone for that long," Dragon said now. "I just had to test you to see for how long you were capable of heeding a command like that. It's vital for what I plan to have you do for me."
Vera looked up after finishing of the meat and tilted her head. Dragon grinned. "You'll see soon enough, girl," she said. "But let us move onto the next thing on our list for the time being, I think we're done with this one."

"And now that we are finished with that, it is time to move on to something that might be more pleasing to you than learning when to stay where I tell you and not come looking for me," Dragon said now with a grin.
Vera tilted her head at her alpha in curiosity. Learning when to stay where her alpha told her and not go looking for her was pretty hard and even terrifying to do, even though her alpha had promised she would not go that far for that long again. She hoped her alpha was right with this next thing that they were doing was better than that, much better.
"In order for me to begin with this though, we must fall back on the trick that we have learned previously," Dragon continued. "Stay."
With that, Dragon began walking backwards as Vera sat down and watched her.

Vera tilted her head a bit as she watched her alpha back up away from her, all the way up until she was standing a good few feet away from the black Fiero. What exactly was she doing now? She knew it was something important, and it was likely related to what they had previously completed, but other than that, she was clueless.
"Okay now, Vera," Dragon said now as she looked back up at Vera. Vera perked her ears up as she focused all her attention on her alpha. "Come over to me."
Vera tilted her head for a moment before she did exactly as her alpha told her; she stood back up and walked over to her, sitting down once more as she came up to her alpha.
"Good job, Vera," Dragon said as she took out a bit of meat and gave to it Vera.

Vera took the bit of meat gratefully, but she chewed on it with a small hint of confusion. Whatever it was that they were doing was simple enough... Why exactly were they doing this again?
"Okay, that was a pretty short distance, but taking baby steps is everything here," Dragon said now. "Stay." And shortly after uttering the command, Dragon turned around and began walking away from Vera.
Vera did not have much time to mull over the thoughts in her head and sort out the confusion she had, since her train of thought was interrupted by the command her alpha had repeated before. She had her ears pricked now as she watched her alpha walk away from her, and, although it was rather unsettling to watch, she was sure that her alpha was not going to leave her behind like she had before. It better not be, because her alpha promised her not to do that again.
