And suddenly a butterfly happened. From afar and at their normal size, butterflies could be described anywhere from cute to beautiful. Up close and the size of cat though? Screw cute; those things are creepy. So creepy in fact, that it even startled Vera when it suddenly came up and landed on her snout, just above her heat sensor.
Vera gave a hoarse yelp and brushed it off with one of her front paws, but instead of flying away, it landed on her back instead. She bucked a bit, trying to get it to fly off again, but it wouldn't leave her.
Dragon, watching the whole thing with wide eyes, fumbled through her little storage cube holder to bring out another cube and proceeded to catch the butterfly within it to remove it from Vera's back. Vera stopped now, wheezing a bit, before she looked up at her alpha and nodded her head in thanks.
Dragon let out a sigh now. "I think that's enough excitement for today, don't you think?" she asked now. Vera nodded, flattening her ears a bit. Dragon nodded back. "Let's go home then and get these guys into a proper storage."

It had been many months since they had last come down here, what with the butterfly incident and Vera's sudden pregnancy with Zephyr. Dragon had given it many, many months before she felt that Vera was fit enough again to go out exploring, despite Vera pining for outdoor adventure even before that. Pregnancies with breathing disabilities could cause some serious stress on the body, and Dragon just wanted to be extra sure that she was ready for a full day's worth of adventuring through uncharted territory.
Now the two were marching through the Forest of Fiero Pets, with Dragon at the lead, and Vera following silently from behind. It was rather quiet in these woods; it was almost unsettling, but Dragon knew better. The largest animals on this planet now were Fieros and deer. Fieros were generally considered "human friendly" and the deer, while pretty clever when it came to avoiding both humans and Fieros, were generally quite peaceful beings who would normally not attack unless provoked into doing so.

Most of the animals who lived here were cat sized, so there was pretty much nothing to worry about, save for the enormous insects, anyway. Those are indeed beautiful, but they were simply too big for any 'normal' person's tastes.
But, even if something did try to attack them for whatever reason, Dragon knew she could count on Vera to help ward them off; her strength, speed, and agility were outstanding, given her size and disabilities.
"Gah...I think I went to bed a little too late..." Dragon said as she yawned inadvertently as they made their way through the forest, this time trying out a different route than before. It was just after sunrise, and Dragon hadn't fully awakened yet, despite the fact that, before they had arrived, she was eager to start exploring again. Adrenaline rushes sucked when they did not last as long as you wanted them to.

Vera tossed her head in response, this gesture sort of being an equivalent to an eye roll. Yes, her alpha was her leader, and she also had a great amount of respect for her, but she knew as well that her alpha was far from perfect, sometimes even to the point of stupidity. She was a fun character though, and she felt really lucky to have someone like her as her leader.
With that said though, Vera hoped that her yawning did not mean that she was going to give out earlier than she normally would, because she would definitely hate having to carry her around like a pup the entire time. Her alpha was much heavier than a pup, and even though technically size wasn't entirely the issue, the fact that carrying things in her mouth blocked some parts of her air way, and that would mean that she too would tire out faster, and then neither of them would be able to get much done for today either.

Suddenly, the sound of a snapping twig from behind caught Vera's attention. The snapping was subtle, too small to be much of a threat, and definitely something that her alpha could not sense with those dull ears of hers.
Slowly, Vera turned her head, and as she did so, she caught the thermal image of a small, cat-sized creature, and as it turned out, it was yet another cat. However, since she did not have her eye out, she could not tell if it was of a type that they had caught before or not, but it likely did not matter; her alpha captured them regardless.
"Hey, do you see anything?" Dragon asked as she looked back at Vera, and then she noticed the cat. The cat tilted its head at them before getting up and trotting right over to Dragon before it began rubbing up against her legs, purring loudly.

"Hey there, little one..." Dragon said with a smile before slowly getting down on her knees to pet the cat. "Where did you come from? You're almost way too tame to be living in the forests out here.." Then again, Fiero pets were almost always tame when you captured them, but this was seriously the first time she had ever seen a Fiero pet actually want to be captured. This almost seemed like this pet belonged to someone else, and it probably either ran away and got lost, or someone, God forbid, dumped the poor thing in the woods to fend for itself.
It would be cruel not to pick up and bring it home so that was what Dragon did. She cuddled the little black and white ball of fur before bringing out a storage cube and placing it within. She did not know if she was going to keep it for herself or her Fieros or not, but she was sure she could find it a good home at the very least.

Dragon stood back up now and turned to look at Vera, who was watching her, somewhat almost impatiently. "So..." Dragon said, keeping this expression of hers in mind. "Shall we continue?"
Dragon did not quite wait for an answer and just continued pressing forward, since, to put it frankly, she didn't really need to wait for an answer from Vera. Vera's face had pretty much said everything without having her make so much as a peep, and Vera just continued to silently follow her. It was probably for the best that they leave the dilly dallying for later, while the sun was still in sky. They both wanted to get the most out of this trip, with the hope being that they could capture more pets than they had last time. Vera hoped to herself that there would be no more giant butterflies hanging around.

Silently, Dragon was hoping the same, especially with how Vera freaked out last time. She hoped that Vera would be a little more prepared for the butterflies, now that she knows what they look like and how they can suddenly appear out of nowhere, but at the same time, she worried about Vera, with her single, and semi-blocked, airway. Luckily though, she did bring a decently sized bag with her, just in case the situation did grow serious enough to need it.
Suddenly, out of nowhere pretty much, it began snowing. It wasn't like big flakes; they were small and did not seem to be sticking to the ground for very long before melting. Under normal circumstances, this would have been detrimental, since snow sometimes washes away the scents of animals and even their own, but neither she nor Vera relied on scent, so it was not too much of a big issue.

A low growl erupted from Vera's throat as she spotted the butterfly. She flattened her ears and bared her teeth into a snarl as she watched it fluttering around, and she constantly changed her position to continue watching it as well as keep her distance from it.
Dragon glanced back at her, wondering what all the fuss was about, before she looked up and noticed the butterfly fluttering around in the chilling snowfall. She sighed for a moment before she got the proper storage cube ready. Well, at least Vera was growling at it, rather than hyperventilating, she thought to herself.
For the longest time, the butterfly kept itself out of both Dragon's and Vera's reach, as if it was taunting them with how much higher it was in the air than them. Dragon glanced at Vera for a moment, thinking about how she could get up and catch that butterfly.

Hm... If she stood on Vera's back, she would probably be able to reach that butterfly... Dragon thought to herself, but then she shook head. No, that likely would not do; Vera had not yet been taught to accept anyone riding her back save for maybe the occasional pup, and Dragon was likely too heavy to stand on her back without it being uncomfortable for her. It would work in theory, but as of right now, it was out of the question.
Dragon sighed now as she and Vera continued to watch the butterfly, with Vera still snarling at it. If that thing ever decided to come down any time soon, Dragon would have to somehow get Vera to not lunge at it, especially since Vera was no longer in a good mood, and she could potentially severely damage the pet and maybe even possibly kill it, which was not what Dragon wanted.

Dragon glanced back over at Vera before she slowly came over and began massaging her cheek. Vera quieted down and moved her head in Dragon's direction, as if to glance at her questioningly, before her ears became erect again and she continued snarling at the butterfly.
"Hey, easy Vera..." Dragon said now as she continued to massage Vera's cheek. "You can stop growling at the butterfly now; it's not going to hurt you like that last one did."
Vera slowly stopped growling now as she looked back at Dragon. Momentarily she looked back at the butterfly, but then she looked back at her alpha again. She gave a hoarse whine before carefully moved her cheek away from Dragon's paw and pressed the top of her head against it.
Dragon smiled faintly. "Don't worry, I won't let that butterfly do anything to you..." she said. "I'm going to catch that thing before it even has the chance to touch you."

Just as Dragon finished what she said, the butterfly had decided to swoop down on them. Vera bared her teeth and hissed, as if to warn Dragon that it was coming, but Dragon was one step ahead of her, and she had the storage cube ready to take the butterfly. When the butterfly came down on them, Dragon whipped out the storage cube and sucked the butterfly right into it as it got close enough, capturing it with no issue.
"Well, that was certainly easier to capture than that last one, if one took away the height issue," Dragon said with a faint grin as she looked back at Vera. Vera more or less looked unamused, with her ears flat against her head again and her snout scrunched up into a frown.
Dragon sighed. "Hey, cheer up Vera," she said now with a smile. "At least it's over now and we won't have to worry about it. Let's keep going, okay?"
Vera sighed as she followed her alpha as she began walking again.
