"Well, here we are," Dragon said as both she and Vera came up to the entrance to the forest, a forest that they have not gone through in forever. It was an exceptionally hard to navigate kind of forest, a forest that one could easily get lost in had they not had a Fiero by their side, but even then, separation was rather common. Why would anyone go into this particular forest? One reason: special, hard to find Fiero pets. There was nowhere else on this planet where they could be found, and some pets were much more elusive than others, where only the most skilled of Fieros could find them. Vera tilted her head at the enormous forest, a few memories of it coming back to her. She could remember that that was where her alpha's messenger came from, and she had caught her herself, but she was the only pet they found. "No time like the present, Vera," Dragon said now, interrupting her thoughts. "Let's get going." (Word Count: 177) (Level 34 2/5)

Today was going to be a great and fruitful day, Dragon thought to herself with great confidence as she led Vera into the depths of the forest. Vera was fully trained for this kind of thing now; not that she really needed it or anything like that because she had been loyal almost to a fault, but the forest was closed off to anyone without a well trained Fiero for safety reasons, and it was understandable.
The forest still looked just as formidable and foreboding as it had been all those years ago, but now it did not seem at all that terrible. Perhaps it was because Vera was by her side, or that it was not only that, but also the confidence of having an obedient Fiero that wouldn't wander off if you ended up getting separated.
The foliage underfoot was still rather uncomfortable to walk in, but other than that, they were off to a good start.

Vera's head swung from side to side, letting her thermal vision do most of the seeing. She could definitely sense a wide abundance of many different wildlife, ranging from the prey animals to the cat sized animals called Fiero pets. Most of these though were high up in the trees which were too tall for even Vera to balance on her hind legs and extend her tongue the full length. There were even some she could see off in the distance, but with all the trees, they were only brief glimpses.
Dragon kept her eyes peeled for any sign of movement in the bushes as she continued leading Vera through the forest. This felt just like old times, with her searching for Fiero pets, and with Vera right by her side to catch them with that long tongue of hers before they could get away, even though sadly that only happened once.

It was not long before suddenly the trees began to space out more and lessen in density. Dragon raised an eyebrow at this. Were they in the right place? She could have sworn the forest was much bigger than this. Could it be that they just never gone far enough into the forest to reach the other end, or were they just going in big circles and suddenly they were back at the entrance?
But suddenly a large body of water sparkled in the sunlight, proving to Dragon that no, they had not gotten back to the entrance. Rather, they had stumbled onto someplace new, another section of the entire territory that they had never before explored, and seemed rather untouched as well, so it would be safe to say that they were likely the first people to discover this land.
Well, that was definitely something to be proud of, at any rate.

Vera's ears pricked up as she noticed a strange figure come into her heat vision. The figure was around the size of their messenger, Sleekstep, and had very similar proportions as well. Perhaps it was another member of Sleekstep's kind? It must have been, considering the size and overall appearance.
In most cases, Vera would have likely made it clear to her alpha that she had found something worth taking with them. This time though, Vera did not hesitate, since the pet could very well escape in the time it took for Vera to make it obvious that it had been found.
With a flick of her long tongue, Vera quickly snatched up the Fiero pet like a chameleon catching its prey.
Dragon's ears twitched at hearing a rather stressed meow coming from behind and looked over her shoulder to see that Vera was holding a rather brightly colored cat in her tongue. "Oh hey, you found one!" Dragon said with a grin.

With great care, Dragon carefully lifted up the little cat and held it gently in her arms, stroking its soft fur soothingly. The cat, to Dragon's relief, submitted to the gentle handling rather easily, and was purring rather loudly to boot. Dragon smiled down at it before bringing out a storage cube and, without trying to disturb the cat, placed her in the cube.
Vera tilted her head to the side as she watched her alpha somehow magically stuff the cat into such a tiny space, and without the cat even complaining or anything. "As small as it is, it'll be safe in there..." Dragon said now as she put the storage cube away. "The cube itself has a lot of space to it, so it can hold as much as needed without damaging anything."
Dragon turned back to look towards the lake now. "But, how about we continue our little hunting adventure?"

Vera, still a little perplexed by just how anything could even fit into one of those tiny cubes, simply nodded her head and waited for her alpha to make the first move. Dragon, having glanced back in time to see the nod, grinned faintly and began walking again, this time toward the sparkling lake off in the distance.
The grass underfoot was of a much more lush, green color compared to the minimal amount of grass in the forest they had exited, and not to mention it was much more comfortable to walk in. There wasn't a whole lot of shrubs, prickly thorns, or rocks or twigs here. There was just a lot of nice, relatively short grass blades. It was a good thing that it had not decided to rain earlier today; if it had, the grass probably would not be as comfortable as it was now.

There was nothing more exciting than something brand new happening. Dragon had never seen such an enormous lake before, or a lake with so many connections to different springs and creeks in the area. They must have stumbled into one of the main clearings of the forest; there was almost no way that anything to the side would have this many connections everywhere.
Dragon and Vera came up to one of the banks of the lake. Dragon decided to have a bit of a rest from all the walking, sitting down on the grassy part of the shore, and Vera went further onto the more sandy part of the bank and dipped her lips to the watery surface to have a drink.
Despite the rising heat of the sun, and much to Vera's relief, the water was still rather cool, even though it was quite shallow over here. The lake was probably teaming with a wide abundance of life.

Your Fiero notices a rabbit nearby

One of Vera's ears cocked to the side as she picked up the sound of something else that was at the lake near them. Taking her lips away from the lake, Vera looked up in the direction that her ear was responding to to see an animal that had the overall appearance of a rabbit, which was something that her pack mates would sometimes bring back, but none of those were ever this big, the size of Sleekstep.
Even more curiously, the rabbit did not feel like prey. She couldn't describe it, but it sort of felt like how she felt about Sleekstep, and not once had she felt like having her alpha's pet for breakfast.
Even though the rabbit wasn't food, Vera still had to catch it and show it to her alpha. Carefully unraveling her tongue, Vera flicked it forward and quickly wrapped it around the rabbit.

The rabbit had no chance to escape the greyish pink tentacle that had wrapped itself around it. It squeaked in surprise and terror as it was now lifted up and brought over toward the enormous black thing with no eyes or nose in sight.
Dragon's ears pricked up at the sound of the squeaking, and she turned her head to see that Vera had caught another pet. This one was a pet that she had never seen before. Well, she has seen the type of animal; anyone who did not know what a rabbit was was probably sheltered from such knowledge as a child, but here, the size of a cat when most like that did not even get that big to begin with? It was unique species of pet that had most likely never been discovered before.
Dragon stood up now and came over to the rabbit before carefully taking it in her arms and holding it close, speaking soft words to it.

The hope was that the rabbit would calm down and submit to Dragon's gentle handling and the soft tone of her voice, and as expected of any fiero pet, the rabbit submitted to it almost immediately. Dragon was glad that Fiero pets submitted easily to domestication; it kind of made her wonder if they weren't domesticated before, like perhaps maybe some of the dragons in ancient times had something to do with it.
Just like she had done with the cat they had just caught, Dragon took out one of her tiny storage cubes and put the rabbit into it. This cube, obviously, was a different cube from the one the cat was in, mostly for safety reasons if the two pets didn't get along as well as they likely should. Dragon didn't want bloodshed happening without her knowledge.
"Okay, now that that's over, shall we continue exploring around the lake?" Dragon asked now.

Vera nodded, still having the hardest time understanding just how anything the size of a cat could fit into something as tiny as a marble, but for whatever reason, it happened, and so she likely should not question it too much. Dragon nodded back and once again, they set off to return to their hunting adventure.
"I'm likely gonna have to catalog all these pets that I find so I know where to go for them again should I, for whatever reason, forget," Dragon said mostly to herself now. "Because eventually I'm sure we'll see many, many more of these guys in the coming days, perhaps maybe even hours or something."
Vera kept silent for most of the time as she followed her alpha around the perimeter of the lake, still keeping her thermal vision and ears keen, trying to see if she could spot anymore pets in the area.
