River held the toy up to Zephyr's face again. "Remember that it has to be quick, like snap your fingers quick," she said. "No hesitation whatsoever, okay?"
Zephyr nodded, focusing all his attention on the toy, and training his ears for any sign of his alpha's command. He was going to pull this off; he was sure of it this time. If he did not not, who knows what might-
"Nip!"
Zephyr nearly yelped in surprise and frantically looked around him when he suddenly heard the command. He was not expecting that; well he was, but he was not expecting it to come so suddenly as it did. He shook his head, and when he heard his alpha nearly burst into laughter, he face-palmed. Such an embarrassing moment.
"You should not try focusing too hard on what you are trying to do, Zephyr..." River said, still grinning faintly, but no longer laughing.

Zephyr flattened his ears and glared at River, not only in annoyance with her grin, but also with his stupidity. Of course he should not have put so much energy into focusing on the task at hand, when the command could be given at any moment regardless of how well prepared he felt that he was. He should have expected this to happen.
"Hey, don't glare at me..." River said, frowning slightly at the vulpine Fiero. "It is not the end of the world if you miss something during training. It only becomes the difference between winning and losing when you are actually battling."
She held the toy up to him again as Zephyr snorted and shifted a little on his paws, straightening himself up. This time he would be ready. This time he would not fail. He could not fail; failure was not an option for him, nor was getting all huffy and giving up.

"Are you ready, Zephyr?" River asked now, tilting her head at the vulpine Fiero. Zephyr laid sheenless, teal eyes on her for a moment, and gave a quick nod before resuming his, now less strained, focus on the toy.
"Nip!"
With speed quicker than the average that he had gone when learning Nibble, Zephyr bit into the rubber toy with his front teeth before he just as quickly pulled away. He panted faintly now, waiting for his alpha to give either criticism or praise.
This time it was praise. "Now THAT was a Nip!" River said with a grin, and this made Zephyr prick his long ears up at her. He did it? He...actually managed to pull it off? "Great job, Zephyr. Now do it again. Nip!"
Zephyr snapped his teeth at the toy again, nipping it very much like he had previously, although it was a bit slower than before, since he was still trying to catch his breath.
"Excellent job, Zephyr," River said, grinning and stroking Zephyr's cheek. "I believe you have it down now. Why don't we go rest for a bit before continuing? You look like you may need it.
Panting a bit still, Zephyr nodded and followed his alpha over to a tall tree, where they were going to rest at.

"Welp, let's see what we've got to do now..." River said with a yawn. Granted, there really wasn't much left. The only thing they had to do now was Bite, and then Zephyr was all set for everything attack wise. Of course, there was his willingness to learn a command to deal with, especially so soon after the last attack they had finished training for. It should not be too much of a hassle, especially if he knows this is the last attack to be taught.
River stood up now, prompting Zephyr to yawn and look up at her. River looked back at him. "Come on, boy," she said. "Let's go teach you how to Bite."
Zephyr groaned before standing up, but he didn't make a move to follow his alpha. River sighed. "Come on, this is the last attack we've got to do, I promise. Let's just get this over with, okay?"
Zephyr flattened his ears before he sighed and nodded. River nodded before taking out the toy and holding it up to Zephyr, "Bite."

Zephyr looked at the toy before looking back up at his alpha. With another grumbled sigh, he bit down on the toy, as hard as he possibly could, before letting go again. He snorted before looking back up at his alpha. He gave it his all; now could they go back to something much more enjoyable?
River rolled her eyes at the Fiero now, well aware at just how uncooperative he was willing to be. She was not going to allow him to get his way though; not this time anyhow. "It was a good start, but it needs a bit more speed added to it," she said.
Zephyr flattened his ears and growled a little in his throat before sitting down and turning his head away.
River gave an exasperated sigh. "So, you are planning to be uncooperative with me until I call it quits here and move onto something else more enjoyable for you?" she asked now, sounding a little annoyed.

Zephyr turned his head back a little bit to look up at his alpha again before turning it away once more. It was perhaps more than obvious that he did not want to do this. In fact, he was hoping that his alpha was just going to quit in frustration so they could go on to do something else, something much more enjoyable.
"Well, you are going to be sitting there for a long time then," River said now, crossing her arms as she watched Zephyr. "We will not be moving on to anything else until we finish this."
This pretty much crushed Zephyr's hopes. His ears pricked up to their highest point before he turned back to look at his alpha, wide eyed at what she had just said. She was...really that willing to wait that long? But...But he wanted to do something fun! There was no way that that was going to happen if they were not going to do anything!
"Well?" River said, tilting her head at him. "What's it going to be? Are we going to get this over with so we can move on, or are we just going to sit here and do nothing all day?"

Zephyr growled low in his throat, flattening his ears as he did so. Then he just groaned and bowed his head in defeat, knowing full well that his alpha would be more than willing to stay true to her word if he refused. After all, she was his alpha; how could he oppose his leader?
Still grumbling, keeping his ears flat, and now shooting a glare up at his alpha, Zephyr stood up once more. Well, if he had to do it now, he might as well get it over with. It would certainly beat not doing anything because he was being uncooperative.
River smiled faintly before gently massaging Zephyr's cheek. He grumbled a bit more, but he otherwise did not protest. "Hey, look at it this way," she began now. "The sooner we get this over with the better. And here's a little advice: even if you don't like something, there's no point in flaunting it. Just try to make the best of it, and before you know it, it'll be over, okay?"

Zephyr looked back up at River before he nodded slowly. He still did not like it, but at least she was making sense with what she was saying. Often times the fun things that they did seemed to fly by; the moment it started, it would feel like it was only minutes later until it ended, when it was only an hour or so. Yes, it indeed made perfect sense.
River grinned now before holding up the toy to Zephyr again. "Okay now," she said. "Let's try this again, but with a bit more speed. Speed is a necessity for any well executed attack. Now bite."
Zephyr snapped at the toy, biting into it with all his strength once again and pulling away from it. The bite marks left were very much like the ones before.
"That was much better," she said now with a smile as she let her arm rest. "It still needs some more speed, but you're definitely on the right track."

Zephyr rolled his eyes at his alpha, frowning a bit in annoyance at what she had just said, but he did not do anything to protest. They were making progress; he could at least be happy about that, could he?
River chuckled at Zephyr a bit before holding up the toy again. "Bite."
Zephyr snapped at the toy again, closing his jaws on it before pulling away just as quickly. It was not as fast as River wanted it, but it was definitely a little faster than the previous try.
"Excellent," she said. "Bite it again."
Zephyr once again lashed out at the toy with his fangs, sinking them into the toy once more and then pulling them out again.
"And again. Bite."
And once more, Zephyr bit down into the toy and pulled away, with the speed of a nip, but the power of a full out bite. He panted now before looking up at his alpha.
"Alright, that should be good enough, boy," River said now before patting him gently on the head. "You did good despite your stubbornness."
Zephyr nodded, still panting, before he plopped down on his rump. His teeth and jaws felt a bit sore from all the training they did, but at least it wasn't all in vain.
"Man, you look tired..." River said now, tilting her head. "Do you want to go home?"
Zephyr looked up at River before he silently nodded. River nodded back. "Okay, let's go then," she said with a smile, before she began walking back, with Zephyr standing up and following her.

With all the things that had happened during the previous weeks, this was almost like a dream. Actually, there were times where River was even convinced that it was a dream, and Zephyr had to poke her with his cold nose every once in awhile to remind her that this was still reality. Why did it feel so much like a dream?
Not long ago, the final battle to end the war between them and the dragon had ended. All that training, all that pressure, all the fighting… it was all over now. The Fieros were returned to their alphas, the pups as well, and peace was restored once more. Of course, there were a lot of changes that occurred as a result, but overall, things were starting to get back to the way they were.
River and Zephyr were on their way to the Training Meadow, a place that they haven’t seen in a good long time because of the battles they had to do. Zephyr was pretty eager to start learning some tricks; he didn’t care too much for the fighting.

“Well, here we are…” River said as they entered their little spot of the Training Meadow. She looked at Zephyr now, who stood next to her, gazing intently. She smiled. “You seem rather intent on continuing our training with tricks…” she said. Zephyr nodded vigorously.
River grinned at seeing his reaction. “What I think we’ll do first though is start off with some of the more basic stuff before going on to the harder stuff, because if I remember correctly…” She rummaged through the bag that she brought with her before she found a piece of paper and scanned over it a few times. “Yep, I was right.” She looked up at Zephyr as he tilted his head at her, confused. “Oh, right. There are some rather complex commands, according to the list that Dragon gave me. What I had meant was that we’ll be getting to those later on, okay?”
Zephyr tilted his head before he nodded. That made sense, considering the fact that these complex tricks were probably rather difficult to grasp. River nodded with a smile.
“Okay then boy, sit.”

Zephyr tilted his head once more at his alpha, but he sat down on his fluffy haunches without any verbal question. Perhaps maybe they were doing some review first before actually getting onto the new stuff? But that did not make sense. Why would she do that when she already knew that he was pretty good at this trick?
“Good boy, now stay,” River said, as she slowly began backing away from Zephyr. Zephyr looked at her with a confused expression. That was odd...stay? Was that some sort of new command? But why would she…wait, why was she suddenly backing away from him? Zephyr whined a little bit before he stood up and trotted over to her.
“Hey, what are you doing?” River asked now as she noticed Zephyr getting up and moving toward her. “I did not ask you to follow me.”
Zephyr, royally confused, tilted his head at his alpha.

River locked eyes with him for a moment, before she sighed and looked down. “Okay, let’s try this again, shall we?” she said before she looked back up at him. “Sit.”
Zephyr, still very much confused, did as he was commanded and sat down. What was his alpha trying to accomplish though? His alpha was trying to teach him something new, he knew that, but she wasn’t being the most clear. She was using new commands that he had never really heard much of before…He wished that she would give an explanation of it all, instead of having him to keep constantly guessing.
“Now stay, Zephyr,” River said now, but this time she did not go back very far. She only took a few steps back so that she was a nice distance away, but she was not too horribly far from the vulpine Fiero.

Zephyr tilted his head again at his alpha, but he stayed where he was. This whole ordeal still confused him greatly, as he tried to figure out just what his alpha was trying to teach him. Stay? Stay where? Stay where he was? But why? A part of him really wanted to have some way of talking to his alpha, because she was not doing anything to really help his confusion, but that language barrier between them was in the way. He could somewhat understand her, but she would not be able to understand him.
River smiled faintly when she saw that Zephyr was not about to move from his spot on the ground. However, she could still see the confusion in his eyes, so she took out a small bit of meat and gave it to him. He cocked an ear to the side and ate it without much question.

“Good job, Zephyr,” River said now. “Now, just stay there, okay?“ Slowly, she began backing away from him again, but Zephyr was no longer amused, if he had been amused before. Instead, he just stood up once again and walked over to stand in front of her, before he sat down again. His face held a very serious expression, and a bit of a defiant look. If he was not going to get the explanation he wanted, then he would just have to be difficult with her until she spilled it.
River blinked at this, before she sighed again. "Zephyr, stay," she said again, before backing up once more, but Zephyr only followed her, taking a step forward toward her as she took a step back, so that he was always a foot away from her, no matter how much she backed up.
"Zephyr, what are you doing?" River asked now. "You had it right the first time, why are you being so difficult?"
