Zephyr flattened his ears a bit more and whimpered. He didn't move toward his alpha yet. River sighed. "Come on, Zephyr..." she said, not trying to let any hint of impatience show in the soothing tone she was trying. "This will hopefully be the only time I'll be touching your belly. I just need you to work with me for just a bit longer, okay?"
Zephyr hesitated for a moment before he slowly came back over to his alpha. He hoped that she wouldn't hurt his belly. She probably wouldn't, but it never hurts to be cautious, right? Or was he being too cautious?
Once Zephyr was close enough again, River began to stroke his back before moving down his flank and to his belly. Zephyr shifted again when River made contact with his belly, but he did not move away from his alpha. River began to stroke it now, very gently.

After about a minute or two of stroking, Zephyr found himself leaning into it. For some reason, it actually felt GOOD to have his belly touched. Maybe it was because his alpha was being careful? Or perhaps he realized that there was really nothing to worry about with her. He was likely just overreacting back there. He should have known better.
Eventually, River stopped stroking Zephyr's belly and came back up to stroke his back. "That was much, much better, Zephyr..." she said now, handing him a shred of meat as a reward. "We only have a few more things to take care of, and then we shall be done, okay?"
Zephyr nodded now. River smiled at him before nodding back. Now, what exactly was left? She got the back, the tails, the belly, and the head, along with everything in between, so what was next? Ah yes...the legs. She needed to do his legs and feet.

River continued to stroke Zephyr's back, all the while trying to figure out how exactly she was going to do this. Most animals didn't really like having their limps touched, so it was safe to assume Zephyr would pull away when she tried. Of course, she wanted him to at least tolerate it, much like how she got him to tolerate the other areas she went over, so perhaps she could approach it that way?
She would have to work slowly, like she had with the tails and the belly. Too quickly and he may protest to it. She should probably start with the forelegs first, and then do the hind legs. Yeah, that's what she should probably do. Now, where should she start? Perhaps maybe the shoulder, since it was sort of like the start of the forelegs?
In the end, that's where River started. Or at least, she started making her way over to that starting point.

Because she was on Zephyr's right side, River decided to start on his right side. Whether or not she was going to do one flank each, or the forelegs first and then the hind legs second, she was still a bit unsure of. Perhaps doing a full circle around Zephyr would work.
As she thought about this, River had started work her paw from Zephyr's back to his shoulder, in slow, careful, and gentle strokes. She did this until Zephyr started to lean into it, like he had when she was going to stroke his belly. Then River started to move down his right foreleg, very slowly.
Zephyr turned his head to watch what his alpha was doing, and he flicked an ear back. Now what was she doing? Touching his leg it seemed. This must be the last of what they were doing, hopefully. Some of what they were doing he didn't particularly care for, and this happened to be another one of them.

River continued to slowly and gently run her paws down Zephyr's right foreleg. The leg itself, although long enough for it not to be fore a regular sized wolf, was too short to really be from a good sized horse, or horse-size creature. It didn't take her too long to get to Zephyr's wrist, and also down to his right paw. After some coaxing, she managed to get him to lift up his paw, so she could feel the sensitive pads underneath. She made sure to be extra careful and gentle here, as the pads tended to be some of the more sensitive parts of the body.
Just as slowly and gently, River moved her paws back up the foreleg and back to the shoulder, where she stroked it over a few times before handing Zephyr and shred of meat. "That was very good, Zephyr," she said now, smiling. "Only three more to go, okay?"

Zephyr looked blankly at his alpha before nodding finally. So, the last of what they were doing involved her touching his legs and feet, and now that his right front leg was done, now there were only three left to do. He could live with that, since it didn't seem to take too long to do one leg anyway.
River nodded back before she began stroking Zephyr again, moving her paw away from his shoulder and moving it along his chest and neck as she moved it over to the other shoulder. Here, she did the same thing again; she began to stroke Zephyr's left shoulder until he leaned into it, and then she began to move her paws downward. Zephyr turned his head again to watch his alpha, even though he knew already as to what she was doing.
River continued to move her paws down his left foreleg, slowly and gently, like before.

Nothing seemed to be different structure-wise when comparing the left foreleg to Zephyr's right, although she could tell that his right foreleg was the stronger of the two. Dragon said in one of her letters that while training the claws, it was recommended to train the weaker leg as well as the strong leg. That wouldn't be until a while longer, though.
River's paws continued slowly down Zephyr's left foreleg, down his wrist, and to the top of his paw. It didn't take much coaxing this time to get him to lift up the paw so she could touch the pads underneath. Once she was done, she slowly came back up the leg until she was now stroking his shoulder again.
River again gave him a shred of meat as a reward. "That leaves only two more now, Zephyr..." she said now with a smile. "Just the back legs to do, and we'll be done."

River now began stroking Zephyr's back, away from his shoulder, and now started to slowly move toward his hindquarters. She made sure her movements were gentle, but she made them a bit quicker this time, as she knew he was used to the touch by now. Once she was at his hindquarters, on the left side still, she began to stroke it until Zephyr leaned into it.
Then, like she had done with the forelegs, River began to move her paws slowly and gently down the left hind leg. She went from the thigh, to the knee, the the shin, and past the ankle. Then she came down to the top of the paw. With some coaxing, she got Zephyr to raise this paw for her, so she could feel its pads, much like she had done with the others.
After she was done, she put the paw down, and came back up the leg until she was stroking his hindquarters again.

Now River began moving around Zephyr's sea of tails as she made her way around to his right side again, so she could get to his right hind leg. It didn't take too long, because all she really had to do was walk around them, so she wouldn't accidentally step on one accidentally. She knew that Zephyr didn't appreciate having his tails touched, and it probably wouldn't be at all that pleasant for him to have them stepped on either.
Once she was again on his right side, River placed her paw on Zephyr's hindquarters again and stroked them until he started leaning into it. Then she started moving her paws down his right hind leg, like she did with his left. She moved them down the thigh, the knee, all the way down to the paw, and with a little coaxing, she felt the pads underneath.
River came back up now and then gave Zephyr another shred of meat. Then she began moving her paw over every part of his body again, just to make sure she got everything. When there was no protest, she smiled.
"Well, I think we are done here," she said now, patting his back gently. Zephyr looked at River and then yipped and wagged his tails slightly. "How about we go rest somewhere for awhile? I don't know about you, but that took quite a bit of energy out of me..." Zephyr nodded faintly, and then the both of them walked away to a nearby standalone tree.

(Much stuff happened in between the last post and this, so if you are a little confused, this is why XD)
Well, those past few days were very eventful, River thought to herself as she made her way back the her little training area, Zephyr following close behind her. No big deal, though, since it was only really a small inconvenience to training.
For Zephyr, however, those past few days had filled his head with questions, which in turn filled the rest of him up with confusion. A small pup had visited him and his alpha, along with another individual who seemed to be a friend of his alpha, but it wasn't the individual who confused him, but the pup. Although the pup looked very different from him, there were definitely colors and patterns on the pup that mimicked his.
Not to mention that the puppy seemed to know him, and he seemed to know her back, as if there was some sort of bond between them that he couldn't yet recognize.
He couldn't think about this now though. His alpha would be displeased with him if he got distracted from his training over something that shouldn't really concern him.

River looked over the letters she had brought with her, searching through them until she found the one that she was looking for. All of these letters were from Dragon, with tips and suggestions on battle training. The one she had in her paw currently had the suggestion to begin with scrape, and then do nibble, and continue doing this back and forth until they hit slash.
That seemed simple enough, but how would she begin training for such attacks in the first place? Dragon had an oversize scratching post, but what did River have that she could use in placement? It would be cruelty to the trees to use them, unless it was already dead and all...
Perhaps she could trouble Dragon into letting her borrow the scratching post for a little bit? That was always an option, but Dragon almost always seemed to be busy training, so that might not be a good idea.
Zephyr just watched her now, wondering what it was that she was trying to figure out. He hoped she'd say something, because it didn't help him to just stand here all day.

River groaned in an exasperated sigh. This wasn't working. All she was doing was wasting precious time trying to figure out one simple little thing, when she can work on another thing and get back to it. Yeah, sure. Slash was a powerful attack, more powerful than a Bite. But who cared? Any Fiero with enough strength could take down someone just as easily with bite as they would with Slash. It may take a little longer, but that was the fact.
Eventually she walked over to Zephyr, taking out a few toys that she had hoarded from a long time ago. These toys were old, but they were made out of rubber, something ideal for the mouth to bite, or at least nibble on, without much trouble.
Zephyr continued to watch her, all the way to the point where she was standing right in front of him, holding onto one of the rubber toys with careful manipulation of her three toes on her forepaw. She held out the the flatter part of the rubber toy to Zephyr.
"Nibble this, Zephyr," she said now.

Zephyr started at this flattened piece of the rubber toy, not entirely sure as to what to do with it. He tilted his head at it with a confused look, flattening his ears slightly. He knew he had to do something, but what was he supposed to do? He gave a small whine and looked up at his alpha, hoping she would not be too mad at him for not really knowing what he was suppose to do.
Moments turned into minutes as the two just stood there, one waiting for the other to do something, but the other waiting for an explanation on what was expected. It eventually became clear to River that this was not going anywhere. She sighed and let her arm holding out the toy come down to rest beside her. Zephyr flattened his ears a little more at the sigh. Was she mad at him?

River needed to rework how she was going to do this, because as of right now, Zephyr had no clue as to what it was she wanted him to do, apparently. That was a bummer, but not too horrible. Just a small obstacle that she could get over, hopefully, with some added information. Fieros were smart; sapience smart, so they can understand what you say to them, more so if you explain stuff to them.
First though, she should probably let Zephyr know that she was not mad at him, because if she was mad at anyone, it would be at herself for not thinking at all that much.
River carefully stroked Zephyr's head soothingly, totally opposite to what Zephyr was expecting. The vulpine Fiero lifted his head up to look at his alpha, still with his ears flattened. River only smiled apologetically at him. "It's okay, Zephyr.." she said now. "I'm not mad at you at all. In fact, I probably should have expected you not to really know what you were doing..."

Zephyr's ears pricked up a little now, showing that he understood now that his alpha had no intention of being mad at him. An explanation of what he was supposed to do would be nice, of course.
"Okay, so..." River began, not entirely sure as to where exactly she should begin, but knowing she should begin none the less. Zephyr tilted his head at his alpha, ears pricked up to their highest so he wouldn't miss anything. "Nibbling is basically a type of attack where you use your teeth to lightly chew something. According to my friend, it doesn't do a whole lot of damage if you're weak, but if you're strong enough, you can take out almost anything weaker than you with it."
River tilted her head now. "I hope that my explanation was enough for you..." she said now. "These things are sort of hard to explain when they're second nature."
