"Hey Hed-Hedley?!" The human spluttered in confusion as he patted at Hedley's straining cheeks as if he were a human. What the hell was going on?! His fiero looked as if he was having a bad dream, like one of those where you knew something scary was coming but you couldn't run. "Come on, wake up boy!" He growled lightly. He had started this odd convulsing when he seemed to notice Alloy touching that peculiar stripe. He started to guess that the odd feel would make sense-it might have been a scar from some scrabble when he was a pup and him touching it made Hedley kick up the memory. Finally he saw the familiar eyes, though confused and wary look up at him. "You okay boy...?" He asked nicely and in response he got a warm lick to his hand. "Good..." He stood up again, brushing the grass from his jeans.

Hedley rose to his feet, shaking off himself and somehow getting a surge of pride. His leader had been concerned for him! He cared. He also felt stupid however letting that memory overtake him so quickly. He twisted and licked lightly at the scar, still tender though time had passed before looking to Alloy. "We'll just say that your back's fine...okay?" He watched him walk behind him, irrationally nervous he'd touch his scar again but felt his hand touch at the top of his tail.
He smiled and nodded at him then Alloy took his tail into his hands lightly. To his surprise, it was very fluffy but he could feel the actual tail underneath, somewhat thin like a whip but muscular enough. He almost imagined what a poodle's tail looked like when it was shaved-or more appropriatly a cat's period. He ran his fingers through the fur not getting any resistance. "Very good Hedley...!" He nodded hard, glad they had gotten this under their belts. He went to his front and stroked his face in the way he seemed to like so much.

"Okay Hedley..." He said backing away. "Let's review...You've learned three things today right? First it was..." He paused, grabbing up a stick to hold out in front of the fiero's face. "Nibble." The fiero took to nibbling the stick without a moment's hesitation. He let go of the stick and Hedley dropped it, watching his leader. "Second was-" He pointed to the vine-covered tree. "Scrape." The fiero was so pleased by his own accomplishments he barely made a fuss as he lifted a paw to lightly scratch at the tree. "And last was Accept Contact." He put his hand on Hedley's and he didn't resist the touch.
He grinned at his progress. They had hit a few bumps here and there but Hedley had learned two attacks already. "Okay so, you've learned so much, I think we're ready to go test ourselves. We'll go have a friendly battle with someone. We're all working toward the same goal so even if you loose you'll be helping the cause..."
Hedley nodded before tilting his head oddly. Cause? What cause? The friendly battle sounded fine but he confused him and his mental question went unanswered as the two went off in search of a sparring partner.

(aaand they be back)
Two days later, the pair reentered the area. Alloysius was glad they had worked out Accept Contact before that battle-he had needed to treat and bandage the fiero's wounds. His thoughts were chewing on what the victor of the battle had told him. Words of her super strong fiero that knocked out an opponent in a single round, now possessed. 'The strongest fiero there is...' He thought of the description and against his own wanting, his mind took it and twisted it making his mental image even more creepy then she already sounded. It was obvious he and Hedley had miles to go in their training.
Hedley sighed quietly, still feeling some shame from the loss. He was looking forward to training some more-he wanted to get stronger so he wouldn't have to loose again. His side felt better though as he thought of the limp he caused in the larger female. He hadn't known his own strength.

Alloy walked over and set the duffel bag down on the grass by the vine-twisted tree. It contained various items he planned on using today and possibly even the rest of his training days with Hedley. In short, it was time to get serious; no more sticks for them. "Okay Hedley boy, just forget about that battle so today's a fresh start...Just that you got magically stronger overnight..." He planned on teaching Nip first.
The fiero watched him quietly, even giving a small nod. In retrspect he knew he hadn't done too badly at the battle, being his first. He had managed to get the female to the point of limping. His thoughts snapped away from two days ago to now as he watched Alloy take something out of the bag. He tilted his head. He recognized this item, a part of the handle of a small-broom. "Nibble this." He said holding it out toward him.

He chewed on it lightly as he was told. "Good...Now nibble it to break a piece off." He let go of the smooth stick as Hedley's expression changed to one of momentary confusion around the stick in his mouth.
What an odd request. However he shrugged and tried to nibble into the handle. With the soft chewing, it gave some lean way but no piece, not even the smallest bit came off. He looked up at Alloy and tilted his head at the impossible task. Was he smiling? Teasing? Hedley gave a undignified huff After trying to nibble into it a few more times he knew he would just have to bend his leader's command. Just a little bit-to get the task complete.
Alloy watched with quiet satisfaction as the fiero came to the realization he had been expecting. After a moment of the sound of splintering woood, the damaged stick fell to the ground with a thud.

Hedley still held something, wedged into his mouth as he lifted his head up once more.He smiled somewhat snarkily as he held onto it like a trophy. The man held his hand out, flexing his fingers in a 'gimme it' fashion. Into his hand he dropped the small chunk of wood. Alloy let his hand close around the piece which was about the size of a small rabbit's head. That, he reasoned, ought to be a decent sized tidbit.
Alloy thought so too-though he used the comparison of to a cell phone. "Good job, Hedley!" He praised as he let his hand pat his suede head. The fiero's black-tipped tail swayed to and fro with a childish pride. "But-that wasn't a nibble was it now?"
His tail froze and stuck up in the air. He had been caught. As Alloy went on though, his bright amber eyes almost blazing Hedley relaxed.

He also realized that he had been tricked into doing exactly what his leader wanted-though obviously to help prove a point.
"It's okay though. Of course you could not break through that stick with just nibble. Hell, you looked at me like I'd lost my mind when I asked you, I know!" He chuckled. "You see, what you did there-" He pointed at the stick laying on the ground like a defeated foe. "Was something that required more power, more pressure then nibble..."
Hedley twitched his cream-toned ears as he continued to listen. "Matter of fact, this is the next level of nibble in a sense. It's called nip and it's just when you chew down on something harder, like medium level but not the hardest you can, got it?" He tilted his head at the new word, accented for emphasis so that he would know that's the key command for this certain deed.

To be sure of his teaching, Alloy leaned down and reached into the bag, producting a small rubber ball. He held out the ball to the fiero and felt him carefully take it from his palm. Hedley seemed oddly bemused at the familiar toy, looking in his eyes like he was a pup once more. He chuckle4d lightly at this and shook his head, "We can play later but it's time for business...Now nibble that ball." He felt that it would be important for him to perfectly understand the difference from a nibble to a nip; He knew he wasn't allowed to use the same attack twice in a row during a battle.
He nibbled into it almost instantly, not even needing to think of it. "Good-now nip." There was the new word. He let his jaws close more around the round object, his chewing becoming stronger. To his surprise, either by his sharp teeth or the increased pressure, the ball popped apart and his mouth closed on only the rubber skin and air.

Alloy smiled as he saw Hedley's expression change to one of some surprise, the fiero spitting out the rubber casing of what had been the ball. "You see what I mean? It's a more powerful attack...Even if another fiero that was stronger then you, you would have an advantage if you used nip..." He watched Hedley and realized that he probably understood-the more they worked together the more he felt like they were on the same wavelength.
Hedley's ears flicked forward as his owner further explained this new attack. If only he had learned it before that battle, it might have changed the outcome...Soon he received an award for his patience, a strip of chicken from Alloy's bag. He took it from his hand carefully and happily before he scarfed it down.
The man smiled then looked into his bag as he pondered what to teach him next.

"Okay Hedley," he began, pulling out another ball. It was larger than the first-minute edges ticking its covering. Alloy began to throw it up in the air and catch it as he spoke."For this next lesson, you won't be attacking anything but defending yourself instead. You've already shown that you understand this technique-or more specific, your instincts probably know, better then you realize..."
Hedley tilted his head, leaning forward in interest. He didn't quite grasp the weird riddle that his leader was unraveling. All the same it sounded so interesting and he was almost dying to know what he was talking about. Something he already knew to defend himself, that his instincts would know even better? What did he mean anyway by saying he had shown it before? With these musings and questions bouncing in his head, he had almost totally forgotten about that ball Alloy had-until it hit him on the nose.

He hadn't thrown it straight at him, of course-it wasn't time for that yet. He had simply waited until the fiero was pretty enthralled, totally hanging on his every word that came you of his mouth. As the ball came from its small descent, he didn't catch it. Instead he let his palm smack the ball, sending it into an arch that ended in it bouncing off of Hedley's muzzle. He had to bite his lip to keep from laughing as he couldn't help but remember seeing seals at a zoo do that; but more importantly his eyes had caught it, an involuntary twitch in Hedley's body before the ball made impact.
Hedley let out a small yelp, not because it hurt but because it had definitely caught him off guard. He jumped backward and looked up as Alloy spoke again, "Sorry buddy." He picked up the ball again. "That didn't work out quite as well as I thought it would, don't worry though, I'll explain..."

Instead of bouncing it up and down in that semi-hypnotic way, he tucked the ball in the crook of one elbow, feeling like a soccer coach or something. "Remember during that battle when that female fiero went to scratch you?" He paused then went on. "You avoided the initial brunt of the attack by going under her as she pounced at you..."
Hedley let his mind take him back to that one split second decision; he remembered alright. The idea had just came so quickly it was as if he hadn't even thought it through. Had that been what he meant by instincts? At any rate he would like to know.
He gave a small 'ruff' sound at Alloy that he took apparently for a 'yes' cause he began again. "Well this is going to help you learn to avoid the opponent's attack almost every time." With that he chucked the ball at him "Jump!"

The fiero jolted lightly-not because of the ball but because of the new word. Jump. It was obviously some cue word but what was he supposed to do? The balll made impact with his chest. He stared and reacted to another ball, with what little could be counted as a reaction, he flinched lightly and felt this ball hit his shoulder. What was going on?!
Dodgeball was truly all that Alloy could think to do in order to teach him this ability. He thought for sure, like a little kid in elementary school, Hedley would realize the point, but now it seemed to not be working. Hedley wasn't making the connections between what he was just talking about and the bombardment of balls berating him now. As she threw another he called a reworked movie line, hoping it would make the two different things click; "If you can dodge a ball, you can dodge a fiero-!"

Hedley flicked his ears as the next ball came at his face. Something, probably his instinct, told him what to do this time, as if it had suddenly remembered. The fiero bounced to the left, paws on the ground again as the blue ball whizzed past his head. "Yes! That's it-! Jump!" His tail wagged with the positive praise. That was what he wanted him to do? He had no time to second guess it as Alloy had picked up the first ball and threw it at him again.
Alloy watched with a grin as Hedley jumped to the right; he'd picked up the right idea. With another Hedley's time had been off and he got hit in the silver chest fluff. Again and again he tested the reaction times till he was sure Hedley could do it sufficiently. "Great boy...!" he praised as he stepped forward and ruffled the fiero's fur.
