(for my own info so I don't have to go digging in the storages- www.fieros.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fstorage&action=display&thread=316) Alloy frowned as he walked side-by-side with Hedley, his thoughts simply swimming in his mind. It seemed like only a few days ago Salki had visited him and brought some terrible news. Dragons, which she had told her about before with regard to stat rising, had gone amok. They were pocessing fieros and made them take what pups they were. Salki herself had been totally beside herself without Bezzy, only staving off tears as she told him. Seeing her like that made him feel terrible and he wanted to do anything in order to get Bezzy back for her. Which was when she saw Hedley peeking out of the blanket hiding spot and she got all excited and bubbly that Alloy had a fiero that he could help get the pocessed fieros back-after he had grew atleast. Hedley had not grown fantastically in size. While not stout he was somewhat shorter then the normal horse porportions for a fiero. (159) (3.2)

He wasn't quite sure where they were going. His leader was being unusually quiet though and that already set him off edge. His ears perked forward as he could smell the scents of various fieros intermingling in the air as they stepped from the sparse to crowded forest into a free patch of land, covered in grass. He lowered his head slightly as he looked around. He didn't really like the feel of this place-so empty. From the scents he could figure that atleast four fieros-and humans had been out here not that long ago. Now it was almost...spooky.
"This should be it boy..." Alloy murmured, sensing his fiero's tentativeness and giving his head a quick light pat. He could tell this was most likely the training meadow from the few roped off sections here and there. Even if there wasn't this disaster going on he probably would have started training him-Hedley obviously needed some self-esteem and learning a trick or attack might help him feel proud. Soon he had scouted out a nice plot of land with hedges along each side and a tree with vines of some sort hanging off of it.

As he finished settling out the area, he picked up a short but thick stick, turning back to his fiero. He let out a small sigh at his expression. "You look so lost...Listen Hedley, this is what we're doing-I'm going to teach you some stuff out here." He started to smack the stick lightly against his palm like a warden with a baton, not even realizing that he had started. "Most of it will be attacks so that you can protect us-whenever the oppertunity arises...And more then less likely, buddy it will arise...." He murmured off before he reached into his jacket's pocket and pulled out the messily jotted notes that Salki had given him. Through the chickenscratch he could make out the names-Nibble, scrape, their more advanced counterparts, nip and scratch and lastly a defense move, jump and the more sucessful leap. He studied Hedley for a moment. The fiero barely ever seemed to use his claws for anything and he seemed to have small ones anyway so he thought he should start with nibble. He quickly realized he already had a instrument for it and he held the stick out toward his face. "Try nibbling this, okay?"

He stared at him then the stick then back at him. He wanted him to nibble /that?/ Why? How would him nibbling on the stick help anything-...What did nibble mean anyway? He gave a small whimper as he tilted his head slowly.
Alloy stared as he did nothing whatsoever to the stick. He sighed lightly. "Maybe I should have explained a little better...Nibble is supposed to be a light chewing-like you know when you're eating something but it's really good so you you obviously don't want to scarf it down so you chew slowly...see?" He held the stick as he pretended to chew on it himself. However he ceased that quickly-he felt like an idiot doing this kind of thing as if he could imagine his friends or people from school watching him. "Now can you try Hed...?" He once again held it toward the cream colored fiero. "Nibble..."

He flicked his ears forward then back with his leader's explanation. He still wasn't quite completely sure what relevence this task held to anything but if Alloy wanted it he supposed that he should apease. Slowly but surely he reached his muzzle out toward the stick, sniffing it and quickly getting some info from his sense. The stick smelled as if it hadn't been that long ago when it had been a strong, growing branch-he had to think it had been a squirrel or chipmunk or some other creature's prized perch. He shook his head lightly of these random thoughts before grabbing onto the branch and sinking his teeth into the supple wood softly and almost cautiously.
The two-toned blue eyes looked up at him in a questioning 'is this right' way. Alloy smiled, nodding. "Right that's the idea boy..." He tugged the stick back and fumbled in his pocket before giving him a reward; a strip of chicken.

Hedley snatched up his prize instantly, his black tipped tail wagging harshly. Maybe this wasn't so bad afterall. What he was asking him to do wasn't that hard and he got rewarded for the effort.
Alloy waited a few moments while he finished the treat. Once he was licking off his mouth he spoke again. "Like I said that was a good nibble but now we need to add a bit of speed to it okay..." He said, fumbling with the stick quietly. He held it out again "Nibble."
This time it came across to Hedley more as a command and less as a question. He nodded slightly as he quickly clamped onto the branch in the middle, nibbling it more then he had done before, more sure this moment.
"Good!" Alloy nodded at his obediance, petting his head. He pondered on how to further his understanding and came up with a plan.

Hedley watched as his leader took the stick away once more and gave a small spiel. "Okay that's the ticket! But I think you know as well as I do that you're going to have to move to actually do any damage with that right? Nobody's just gonna stay still when you try to attack them right? So we're gonna have to do some training with nibble used on moving targets..." For some reason he tossed this short stick away and looked around, finding a longer one. This stick was held toward him much like the other and he prepared to grab onto it but before he could, Alloy pulled it away.
Alloy couldn't help but smirk a little at the fiero's surprise. He had to give him a challenge in order to really learn though. He swished the stick slowly in front of his face, watching as Hedley kept his eyes on it and followed it. "Come on, nibble it..."

His alert eyes moved back and forth to follow the stick waving about. His tail flicked as he took in and processed his leader's words and shortly caught on. He jutted his head out, taking the stick and nibbling on it. "Good job..." The praise warmed him yet soon the stick was moving in front of him in more sporadic parterns and each time Hedley managed to memorize the patterns and finally hit the mark.
Alloy grinned at his fiero's fast but steady progress. "Alright, so you can get it in front of your face, that's good! Just to e sure though let's try something else..." He walked to the side of Hedley and swished it behind his had. His ears flicked at the sound and he turned his head, nibbling the stick quickly. Again he ran the fiero through some trials with the stick, sometimes starting at his back and others at his front.

He felt the stick brush his neck and whipped his head around with a bark, grabbing the stick and chewing at it. His speed seemed to surprise Alloy as he laughed and nodded. "Okay, enough of that, you impressed me!" Another strip of chicken was given and he felt pride well up inside him as he ate it.
Alloy paused to wipe off the bit of drool left on the stick on a large leaf oddly hanging off a bush looking like some plant from the Flinstones. He considered moving onto the next attack right then, which would be scrape but part of him protested.. A part of him that he wouldn't normally care to admit even existed. This part wanted to be completely sure that Hedley would be prepared to fight-he didn't plan on telling him the severity of their mission until he absolutely needed to know. He wasn't sure if the dragons pocessing the fieros would make them any stronger and he wasn't looking forward to being wrong when he found out. He wouldn't dare lead the defenseless fiero that trusted him into a slaughter.

Just one last challenge and he'd feel comfortable with just practice runs of nibble from now on."Hedley!" He called and the fiero trotted over. "Now pay attention boy..." He began to swing the stick around randomly, changing speed here or there and even alternating it from being in or out of his sight.
This sudden alteration practically made his head spin. One moment the stick was behind him but by the time he managed to twist about, his mouth closed on nothing but air and his ears flicked harshly as he heard it cut through the air clean as a whip. Oddly enough his mind could only think back to when he was a pup, before he met Alloy. He remembered when he sometimes went hungry from not being able to catch his prey. He was being thwarted yet again-but this time by a stick instead of a rabbit or a mouse.

His tail furrowed out in frustration as he kept trying to grab the stick. Finally he had enough and he jumped up, his paws closing around it near to where Alloy held it and keeping it still before nibbling it, giving a growl through his clenched teeth. Then he realized how he was acting and he let go instantly, dropping down to her paws again and looking up to Alloy who had gone somewhat wide-eyed.
He had not been expecting quite a reaction to the teasing challenge. All the same Hedley had suceeded and he couldn't help but feel pretty damn proud of him. He dropped the stick and ruffled Hedley's ears lightly. "Very good...! You'll need that determination later you know..." Deep down he felt as if they shared some of the same principles when it came to this sort of thing.
Hedley leaned his head into the praising approving touches glad his leader wasn't annoyed at him.

He wasn't quite sure what he meant by that last comment but his next words made him shrug it off quickly. "Let's move onto something new huh?"
The only question Alloy hadn't put much thought into was how to teach the next attack. He looked around trying to find inspiration. His eyes finally caught the sight of one of the trees, this particular one criss-crossed with vines. He walked over making a decision then pointed at a lower spot. "Try scratching this lightly for me if you could..."
For a moment he only blinked at this quietly, his tail ceasing it's wagging. Slowly he lifted his paw, seeming to study his claws and his ears sunk back against his head. Unsure of his actions, he approached the tree, swiping out his paw and letting his claws lightly drag across the vines, barely leaving any sign that he had done anything at all.

Alloy watched him confused by his slow movement. He seemed to be not just unsure as he had been with nibble at first but he seemed down right unwilling to even try this. He gave a nod though as he did it despite whatever made him act like this. "Right, that's how you do it...This is called a scrape.Just a very light scratching...We can't just rely on using nibble you know. Can you scrape that again...?"
He listened to him, twitching his tail. He looked at the vine. It bothered him to be attacking this like it hadn't when he'd nibbled the stick. It was probably because the tree was alive still. Not that the tree or vines would hurt from it really-they were living but plants didn't feel like animals did and he knew that. He shook his head then sighed quietly, feeling stupid before he drew his claws over the vine again.

The human watched him, glad to see the small dent he'd made in the 'skin' of the vines. It was still bothering him though that Hedley had an odd stern movement while trying to follow the instructions. True he'd expected a bit of hesitation since the fact he never really used his claws for much if he had the choice but...to this level he just wasn't quite sure what was wrong. Again he tried to shrug it off and just 'sluff through. "Very good buddy-see how it doesn't do that much? It's like the wind though-the faster you are the more it'll do. It can just be like today, light and barely there or it can be really stormy and almost knock you off your feet..." He gave him a treat in reward for the begrudging efforts. He decided he needed that stick back after all and picked it up again waiting for him to look up again.

"Now we're going to demonstrate this idea...Just like how we did nibble okay? Just scrape at the stick..." He began to wave it in front of his face again. The fiero grabbed it with his teeth almost instantly and he shook his head. "No...You have to use your claws..." He pulled it away and waved it again. "Now scrape..."
His ears sunk back against his head once more. He gave a disdained glance up at Alloy; this was torture. He felt a tingle reverberate from his middle discolorized rump stripe up his spine, causing him to shake all over. It didn't bother him attacking the stick but what if his claws snagged Alloy's hand that was gripping the stick? He couldn't-he wouldn't cause that kind of pain to anyone...
He sighed, totally bewildered by his lack of action. "Hedley, what's up seriously?" It had only been moments ago he'd grabbed the stick with his paws why couldn't he now?
