Roshan frowned at this quietly. She sounded really worried; even scared. He had to do something about this. He slowly got up, letting a few moments pass as she laid there in somewhat stony silence. "It's going to be alright..." He laid a paw on her shoulder. He felt her shoulders begin to raise as if to brush his paw off, but he continued. "Your alpha wouldn't want you to stress out like this...You have to be strong for your pack. You can do it, I mean... Look at you, you've got dragon blood in your veins! That's got to count for something..." He laughed gently, trying to lift the mood.
She looked up at him seeming to be downright surprised by this statement, finally letting out an odd chuckle. "Y-Yeah...You're right..." The chuckle turned into a little cough, which then turned into a whimpery cry. Her body began to shake before wracking more uncontrollably. He stared before laying down next to her, letting his front leg curl around her shoulders.

Shasta had no idea of what just happened. One moment she was fine, and the next she had just snapped like a twig under her paw. She felt the sobs make her body quake, but suddenly there was something holding her more steady. Roshan was laying next to her, holding her.
The stress had gotten to her. It felt like everyone was depending on her; Rei, Mariella...She'd let down Rei by not getting home that night...What if she let down Mariella? Would she and Rei manage to stay together if Mariella-...she couldn't even think of the word. There was too much uncertainty; too much to worry about. She always had everything under control....She felt Roshan nose her ear gingerly. It felt...nice, to have him next to her like this. She shouldn't have gotten angry at him. It was a simple mistake. She gave another whine as this new guilt popped in her mind.

"It's okay..." He murmured in a sort of mantra, hating to see anyone be this upset. "It's alright; hey, we'll find the silverleaf in the morning-! You'll be back before anyone can even miss you..." Slowly her quaking body began to slow and calm, until just little hiccups of anxiety shook her.
He leaned away from her as she began to raise her head again, looking at him with shiny, wet spots underneath her eyes and trailing around her nose. She looked as if she had aged quite a number of years. "Th-thank you..." Her voice sounded raspy before she laid down again. Her body leaned gently more into his and he sighed at her warmth; she felt almost overheated by her stress. He sighed as he let his paw fall around her shoulder once more. He felt tired too. The two fieros fell asleep like this as the moon kept his lonely watch above.

Shasta's eyes flashed open as a drop of water hit her on the head. She saw the cave wall in front of them and sighed quietly. It must have rained during the night. She turned her head as she remembered the weight that was leaning against her on one side and saw Roshan's face very close to her's. She couldn't help but flush, both from embarrassment of remembering her breakdown the evening before, and the first thought that popped into her head from seeing him; he looked so peaceful. His six tails were tucked gently to his side and she could feel his warmth.
She found herself staying still, not wanting to wake him up. She hadn't slept with anyone since she had grown up....It was pretty nice. Rei did sleep with her for one night when he was a puppy, but he liked to sprawl out in the hallway now, on his own. Sadly for them both, she felt mother nature calling. She began to nudge at his belly. "Roshan...I've got to go..." She said, sighing as she tried to roll out from under him.

Roshan crouched down with a growl before he continued to step forward slowly. He had seen that little dragon run past not long before, obviously a spy of it's horrible mother. He had been looking forward to this; he was going to help out with the- Suddenly something prodded into his belly and he felt his body almost fall, before realizing he was staying still.
"Wha-huh-?" He looked up in confusion as he rolled over gently, having been shoved off as he shook out of the dream. "I said, "I have to go..." Shasta said simply, and he stared at her two-tone blue eyes, one icy blue and the other marine, in the sunlight trickling in from the entrance before she gently walked out of the cave.
He stared before he finally came to what had happened and stretched. He sighed as he remembered his promise to her about today.

She sighed as she walked to a tree and took care of her business before heading back to the cave. "Sorry for waking you up-"
"No, no it's alright-" He sighed then sniffed at the air gently. "Wait-what's that smell?" He looked up at her, tilting his head. Shasta began to scoff indignantly, rolling her eyes. "I told you I had to go-" "No-! I mean...that smell-come closer..." She stared at him before squeezing back into the cave-suddenly something sweet but sharp hit her senses. "What's that?" "I don't know..." His attention was drawn toward a certain divot in the wall, and he pressed his nose up against it. He suddenly stuck his paw into a ditch in the ground. "Here-! Here it is-!" His paw rose up, clutching a small bundle of dark green clovers. "It was right next to us the whole time-!" He gently let it fall from his paw onto the stone ground before digging his paw down again.

Shasta's eyes grew wide at the pile of leaves on the grey floor. "That's silverleaf?!" "Yeah-and there's a ton of it-!" "It's not silver, are you sure-?" He sighed and looked up at her as he dug another lump out from the ditch. "It turns silver when you grind it up...See-I told you we'd find it....Go find a big leaf so you can bundle it up." He heard her laugh slightly before running to find a wide leaf.
He smiled as he dug out enough for her to use for her alpha and even more for just in case later. She brought back the leaf and he brushed all the green clovers into the leaf, crimping together the edges so they could carry it. "Now, which way do you think your home is?" His tail wagged as he gently pushed he bundle toward her. "Should be back the way we came..." She said, turning tail quickly and exiting the cave. He sighed quietly and leaned down, gently cupping his front teeth around the bundle of herbs before he too left the cave.

The two walked in silence, mostly because Roshan couldn't talk while carrying the silverleaf. Now that her worries were tamed, she was finding her way a lot easier; and the fact that she had Roshan with her seemed to be helping too. The scent of home tickled at her nose, slowly becoming stronger and stronger as they walked. Soon the scent became vibrant and she recognized the forest nearest to the house. Her tail wagged happily as she turned to Roshan once more "I can find it from here..."
Roshan gently placed down the bundle which had remained primarily dry throughout the trip. "Thanks Roshan..." She said with a smile curling the corners of her mouth. "Wasn't a problem...Glad I could help. Hopefully you can convince your alpha to take it some-" His words were cut off as she licked up the side of his face. "No really; thanks..."

Roshan felt a stream of warmth flow from his cheek all the way to the tip of his six tails. Was this pride? It wasn't just plain old happiness for sure...But he smiled and kinda bashfully nodded at her. She looked almost the same, seemingly surprised by her own actions. "I'll see you around..." She leaned down and picked up the bundle of silverleaf before dashing off toward her ailing alpha.
He sighed as he turned tail and began to walk home, his mind buzzing with the events of the last day. He wanted to talk to someone about this. Why had she licked him like he was part of her pack? Maybe he could talk to Bezzy about it-then again...no. Zephyr. Maybe dear old dad could help him sort things out. He changed route toward his alpha's home, hoping he was there and ready with some answer.

Shasta barked as she approached the house, her wings practically taking her paws off the ground. She could see Rei for a moment in the window, his bright green eyes meeting hers from a distance before he left the window to meet her. She was panting and nearly collapsed in front of the house as Rei came out.
"You're finally back! Where have you been, she was worried when you didn't come for breakfast!" Rei could smell the strange scent of an unfamiliar male on her pelt but she shrugged it off. "I found something for our alpha, doesn't matter where I've been!" She set down the bundle on the wooden porch and he stared oddly at her. "You've brought some grass?" "No! It's called silverleaf; it's supposed to help her...Now you have to help me get it to her. I-I don't know if she'll take it but it's worth a shot..." Rei was suspcious still of this strange male, but quickly nodded. "Okay...She's in bed." "Where else?" She sighed, picking up the bundle once more.

The silverleaf worked wonders. Soon Mariella was back on her feet and their lives continued like normal. Except for maybe one thing. Shasta would sneak away during the day, having liked being away once in a while.
Roshan had figured it out; what exactly had come over him. Over the next few months, he'd run into Shasta on occasion, trying to make it seem like mere coincidence. The two got used to meeting in a spot between the two residences and shooting the breeze. It was never a lot of talk either, maybe a couple of hours at most.
One day Roshan felt strong and confident. Something was in the air of this sunny Winter day. The bright reflections of the snow and ice weren't going to stop him. He was dead-set on finding Shasta. He finally saw a dash of brown shades and black bobbing through the white and felt his heart skip a beat. She hadn't quite seen him yet; he could go back if he wanted to.

Shasta stretched gently as she shook the flakes of snow off her wings. She didn't particularily care for this cold weather. It made her joints sore and that was embarassing, but it was something she'd have to deal with. She wasn't about to stay cooped up in the house. Suddenly a scent hit her on the wind, looking up, she confirmed her nose's signals. There was Roshan, down across the way. She gave a bark to get his attention before she began to walk his way, plowing through the snow calmly.
"Hey....What's up with you, fierce blood?" He gave a smirk, but something felt off. She gave a playful growl in return though, and smiled lightly, "Not much...My alpha's acting more than a bit strange though; something about this time of year's got her in a tizzy..." "Mine too! Well, more than usual I mean... Humans can be so strange sometimes..."

Roshan knew what she was talking about. There was something about this time of year that was odd. It might have been rubbing off on him. "Shasta, you're a really good friend...You know that?" The female tilted her head with a strange little laugh, "Yeah? Uh, I guess..." She obviously knew it was odd for him to make a genuine compliment so straight forward. "You're a good friend too, Roshan..."
He flushed and tried to remember the advice his father gave him. "I thought..We're so close, maybe we can be more than friends?" She cocked her ears up lightly. "You mean...like mates?" He sighed and gave a sort of awkward, cocked grin. "What do you think?" She gave a look of some concern for a few moments before smiling and walking closer, licking his nose. "I think that's a pretty good idea...for a freak." She gave a teasing laugh as he growled back playfully, before he pounced at her. The two fieros rolled around in the snow, nipping at eachother and laughing until before the daylight began to leave.

Shasta sighed as she curled around her belly in the little cave, now warm and dry, despite the sharply cold sleet outside. Roshan had left only a small while ago to find her some food, but she wasn't too concerned about food. She just gazed down at her belly wistfully; she was with pups.
She had started showing all the signs about a moon or so ago. Her round belly sagged gently, she became more tired and her personality became a bit more snappy. Mariella didn't seem to notice anything was amiss, but Rei sure did. Finally, she spilled the beans about everything with Roshan and he was content with this explanation, saying he was excited to be an uncle. She could imagine them now...Little bundles of helpless fur, just like Rei had been not long ago...
She was shaken out of her thoughts by the sound of snow crunching outside.

Roshan growled at the awful weather as he struggled to drag the multicolored deer along the snowy landscape. He had never really caught a deer before, but now as he found himself expecting pups, he'd spared no expense and caught the biggest one he could come across. "Roshan-?" He heard his love's voice as he finally got to the mouth of the cave. "I'm here..." He said as he let the deer go loose to the ground. "Can you get up, or should I bring you a leg?" He looked toward her, her face showing surprise at the size but she laughed gently. "Dragon blood, remember...?" She stood up slowly before stepping to him, nuzzling him gently before she leaned down and tore off a chunk, hoping this would appease the hungry young inside her. "You have some too..." She insisted as she licked the blood off her muzzle. "I'm not the one who needs strength..." He yawned as he sat down beside her. "I'll eat after you and the pups get your fill..." He felt so excited; the pups would be coming very soon and he'd be able to teach them about the world, at least the best that he knew it. (213) (6)
