Zephyr looked up at her, admiring her once more for her great size, before he cleared his throat, as if to excuse himself from getting distracted. "Uh, well, I was hoping we would have the whole day to talk," he said, and it was true. What he wanted to discuss was most certainly going to take an entire day, perhaps maybe even a few days, depending.
Zephyr tilted his head now. "Do you think... Do you think it would be alright if you could walk with me for a bit?" he asked. Usually changing scenery around a bit during talks can sometimes liven things up, make this a little more interesting than just sitting around and talking and getting bored too early. "Just down the creek is fine, either direction does not matter to me. I would just like to talk to you today, nothing really in particular."

Vera cocked an ear to the side a bit in confusion. He wanted to talk... just to talk? Usually when people set up times like this to meet up, usually it has something very important attached to it, maybe not as important as something that was urgent and needed to be spoken about before something bad happened, but important enough to set something up for it.
But, this male had been so nice before, even seeming to be concerned for her when no concern was really needed, to her knowledge at least. So it would be cruel not to give him the same kindness, right? Well, perhaps maybe not the exact same, but something that can amount to that kindness?
"Uh, sure, why not?" Vera said before she stood up again. "It's not like I really have much going on right now anyway..."

Zephyr nodded now, very much relieved that the female had accepted his offer. Hopefully it will be much easier to talk with her once they got going, although part of him still felt a little uneasy about bringing up the subject he wanted to talk about. She was lonely, he could sense that, and he wanted to be her friend at the very least, someone to go to for whatever she needed that her alpha couldn't provide for whatever reason. But what if she tried denying it all?
Zephyr tried not to think too far into it as he turned around and began walking upstream, with the water flowing in the direction behind him. He glanced back behind him to see if the female was following him, and to his relief, she was following him.
They walked a bit for some time now in silence, before Zephyr finally asked, "So... where were you yesterday? You sort of disappeared after you led me to my family."

Vera, now beside the male, turned her head to look at him for a moment before turning her attention back to whatever it was in front of them. "Eh, I'm not much of a social person..." she said in her harsh voice. "People have things to do, and I leave them to it and go do my own thing. They likely wouldn't appreciate me butting in or anything."
Vera flattened her ears a bit at this and frowned. Yep, that was pretty much the story of her life, even though part of what she said was a lie. Blackcloud was always trying to get her to socialize more, sometimes even trying to drag her into conversations, but she would always leave before anyone could even speak to her.
It was just... It just didn't feel right anymore to socialize with a great hero of their kind, while having to fight those who couldn't fight back because their influence was too weak.

Zephyr flattened his ears and frowned as well when he looked up and noticed her doing so. Yeah, he was right. There was something going on with her. Perhaps it was because of what she had gone through in the war against the dragon? Well, to put it in short term, she had been possessed twice and in the end had to be the one to exhaust herself with bringing back the pups. That alone was probably pretty taxing on her mental health.
But she wasn't alone; the Fieros that weren't possessed had to fight their friends and family who had turned savage, and some of them, like himself, had to be possessed once or twice to achieve the greater good. So, the female was not alone in that regard, and she shouldn't have to feel alone.
"You know..." Zephyr began carefully. "You're not alone..."

Vera paused, momentarily stopping. The she shook her head and continued walking, flattening her ears more and looking down. Had it been that obvious to the male? Well, of course he would know at least part of what she had gone through, so that made sense. But what did he mean, that she was not alone?
Vera lifted her head up, realizing that if she kept it down for too long she would likely run into something she did not initially see. Her ears still remained flat though, as flat as they could realistically be.
"But I am alone...." she finally said. "No one else knows what I've gone through... No one knows how taxing it all was.... I was possessed once, I was possessed twice, I'm pretty sure I've hurt people while I was possessed... And the pups, those poor pups... What if I had something to do with kidnapping them too?"

"And yet," Zephyr began, turning his head to look at the female, "you aren't. You were not the only one to go through such horrid things. There were many others, I have heard. Many others who were possessed and taken from their homes, kidnapping pups and hurting anyone who tried to stop them. And even though they hadn't gone through it twice like you did, they still have a pretty good idea of what happened."
Zephyr sighed before he looked back toward the direction they were heading in. "Even I had to go through it. Even with the fall of the dragon, I was possessed by her, just as you were possessed the second time. My dear first mate had to fight me just to bring me back."
He glanced back over toward the female again. "But the most important thing though, is that you finished the war. You were the one who brought the pups back. Had you not, all those pups would be lost, homeless, perhaps maybe even dead of hunger. You saved them, and even if you did happen to kidnap some of them, you are their hero."

Vera looked back at Zephyr, her expression showing a hint of confusion, before she looked away again. For a long time, she was silent, lost in thought, turning the male's words over and over in her mind. She... she was a hero? Her ears rose up a little bit at the thought. She was someone's hero? The pups... she really did bring those pups back to the light. She really did do something worth being a hero for.
Vera's ears pricked up again now. "I... I'm not alone..." she said now. "I... I'm a hero, just like the others..."
Why hadn't she not figured that out before? It was right there in front of her the entire time. Perhaps... Perhaps she was just so far into that state of mind that she couldn't find anything good that she had done? And this male was able to bring her out of it, just like that.

Zephyr grinned now. "Of course you are," he said now. "Why wouldn't you be? You saved all the little youngsters, and when they grow old enough to speak and understand, their alphas can tell them just how great you are, since I am sure that they all know who brought them back. My alpha would have made sure of that."
He stopped walking now, cocking an ear to the side. Should he confess his feelings now, or keep them to himself for now, and reveal at another time? They had already talked about so much today, and surely after this meeting they were likely going to meet more anyway, and it was likely that eventually feelings could spill out on both sides and and....
Zephyr shook his head, snapping back to attention. Yeah, he'll worry about that little tidbit later. Right now he should enjoy his time with her while the sun was still up.

The day went on after that, and Vera and Zephyr spent most of it walking and talking and laughing for most of the day's duration. When the sun had begun to set, they both agreed to meet each other again, same spot, same time, and this continued on for many, many days.
However, throughout the week itself, Vera could not shake this feeling that her new found friend was hiding something from her, holding back something that seemed really important to him, but he kept pushing it back. She could tell that it was nagging at his tongue, but every time she asked, he brushed it off as nothing.
Finally, today, as she waited for him to show up once more, she was going to ask him exactly what it was that he was feeling. She had a feeling she knew what it was that he wanted to ask, but she wanted to hear it from him, and not jump to any conclusions.

He was going to tell her today. There was going to be no more holding off. Yesterday he could tell that she was starting to get a little suspicious, yes, he could tell that even though the female did not have much in the way of facial features. Zephyr had to tell her, even if she may not quite feel the same for him as he did for her.
Oh, why was love such a difficult thing? It was a different story for his beloved mate back home in his territory, since he had been planning on how to ask her for months before he finally came up to her to socialize.
This situation was different though. Even with all the time they spent together, he still could not quite figure out how to ask her that one question.
As he came to their usual meeting spot, he hoped that today he could tell her that he loved her.

Ah, there he was! Vera's ears pricked up when she finally saw the male come out through the tall brush, and she stood up to greet him. As suspicious as she was about whatever it was that was bugging the male, she did not want to cause too much friction between them, as that would be rather unfair and count as jumping to conclusions, in her opinion at least. That was not saying that she wasn't going to pry him if she found it necessary.
Her tail wagged a bit in greeting, smiling now. Greetings first, prying later, she told herself. He should be able to come out and say whatever it was that was bugging him on his own, hopefully, and do not pry unless it is needed.
"Hey there, Breezy," she finally said, grinning faintly. "Same route as yesterday, or somewhere else different this time?"

Zephyr smiled a bit when he saw that the female was still rather eager and excited to see him, but he could still tell that she was waiting for him to spill out what was bugging him. She was unable to tell that she was giving off such cues, since she could not smell them like he could.
He flattened his ears a bit and looked down though, knowing very well that if he did not get this over with any sooner, he likely never will be able to at all. "Actually, I have something that I need to ask you..." he said as he crossed over the bordering creek and into the female's side of it. "I've been... I've been kind of holding onto this since the day that we were finally able to talk alone for the whole day."
Zephyr looked up at her. "Would you like to be my mate?"

Yep, right on the mark, Vera thought proudly to herself when the male just spilled his feelings for her out in that one question. Yes, even though she could not smell, body language was one of the best ways to tell what is going on within someone's mind. She has had loads of practice with it, even if no one has ever asked her such a question. She has seen others act in similar ways, so it was no real surprise.
Vera began chuckling, before she started laughing. "Took ya long enough to finally say something, eh Breezy?" she said with a grin. "I had a feeling that it was going to be something of that nature, and so I was waiting for you to say something like that for a long time. Your body language was pretty obvious, to tell you the truth."

Zephyr blinked, not at all expecting the female to come out about that just like that. If anything, he was more expecting her to be a little more... surprised perhaps? Had it really been that obvious to her, all this time? He did not know, but at this point, he likely should not care too much about it. He was just glad to have the initial burden lifted off of his shoulders.
"So.... does that mean you want to be my mate, and have pups with me?" he asked hopefully with a slight, hopeful grin. The female's initial response, although it was relieving to hear that she did not outright reject him, the question had still remained unanswered.
He was still confident that she would accept his offer to be a member of his harem and family; having someone like her would be a wonderful addition to the family.
