Another puppy. By god, he had another puppy, and yet another son to boot. How many did he have now, counting the ones that live outside of their home? Four was it? It sounded about right. How many more would there be after this though? River sighed now as she looked down at the little, cat sized ball of fur that was sleeping comfortably on her lap. This ball of fur happened to be a Fiero pup, and he was a Fiero pup born from the bond between Scuroyin and none other than Zephyr. Part of her was happy that finally Scuroyin finally found some happiness after coming home with her, but at the same time, if Zephyr kept this up, most of the next generation of Fieros will be his pups, or relatives of them in some way. Not that it was really a bad thing to begin with, of course. (Word Count: 161) (Level 1 1/5)

As it always seemed to be, this pup was quite the mystery to River, since all pups looked relatively the same except for their colors, but once they have matured, suddenly it's like they're a completely different individual from when they were younger, although a lot of the mutations that show themselves afterward are usually what do it.
Given the pup's background, River could not help but try and picture what he could possibly grow up into. Also given the similarities between the pup's parents, it would likely be safe to assume that those similar characteristics would be passed down onto him. The long ears, those sheenless eyes with the slitted pupils, those would likely be a given.
And yet, what other mutations could possibly erupt once the pup grows up? Aside from the similarities between his parents, there were also a great deal of differences that could determine the outcome of how the pup will look.

River took her eyes off of the pup on her lap to look over at Zephyr and Scuroyin, who were curled up rather comfortably and sleeping together, with Comet's head resting on his father's back. She smiled faintly, realizing just how small the pack was, and yet how tightly knit they were as a family, and that this new puppy was the newest edition to it.
She was also quick to realize just how unique each individual was, how much of a surprise it had been to watch them all grow from such a generic looking puppy to a majestic, unique being. Everyone was special, there was no denying that.
River looked back down at the puppy again to find that the little one had woken up, and he was looking up at her with his puppy blue eyes, either in curiosity or expectancy, she could not tell.

The puppy continued to gaze up at River with what seemed to be a gaze very similar to what cats could give sometimes, usually when they were expecting something like food or attention. Perhaps that was what he wanted, attention? Or perhaps he wanted some food, which would make sense because the pup last ate a couple hours ago. The young, growing animals always seemed to have the highest of metabolisms.
"Are you hungry, little one?" River asked the pup with a small smile, knowing full well that he likely did not understand her. She was pretty sure that that was what he wanted though. She stroked him a bit under his chin before she picked him up as she stood up. "Let's go see if we can find you something to eat."
River walked into the kitchen now before setting the pup down on the floor and searching for something the pup would be able to snack on.

Of course the pup had no intention on staying put, like River likely wanted him to. Almost immediately after her back was turned, the puppy was off exploring the kitchen, trotting off wherever his nose led him. Even though he had been here for awhile now, his home was still rather big, and there were all sorts of neat and interesting things to explore and get into.
"Ah, here we go," River said to herself as she broke out some left over hot dogs from the refrigerator. "Surely you'd like these--" But as she turned around to where she had set the puppy down, he was gone. River blinked before she let out a sigh. "And there he goes...again," she said to herself as she put the hot dogs away again and stood up. This was definitely not the first time that he had run off, but the last time he did, she ended up finding him tangled up in some bed sheets that had been on the floor, waiting to be washed.

By now, the puppy was a good ways away from the kitchen, and he was well on his way toward one of the other sections of the mansion. This particular section happened to hold numerous rooms, bedrooms to be precise, guest bedrooms to be even more precise. Each and every room seemed to have its own set of smells, and all of those scents at once made this pup even more excited to explore each and every one of them.
Meanwhile, River was going through the surrounding areas near the kitchen trying to find the pup, not thinking that he could have gone an entire length over to another section in such a short time. Of course, she could not find him here, so she would have to broaden her search. She did live in a huge mansion, after all. She hoped he would not get himself into too much trouble in the meantime, though.

The puppy pushed open the partially open door of the nearest guest bedroom, peering into it with curiosity and wonder. His nose twitched at the odor the room was giving off; it was new, but at the same time it smelled old, but he could not quite place just how old, and it was obvious that no one was in here in quite some time.
That was a good thing for him, because that meant no one would be able to find him, so he could enjoy this place as much as he wanted for as long as he wanted.
This of course was not a good thing for River, who was still searching everywhere she could think of for him, checking everywhere that she knew the pup could possibly be, from behind sofas to underneath sofas, to underneath her bed and so on and so forth. She should not have left that pup out of her sight. He could slip away almost as fast as a shadowy being.

The puppy excitedly trotted into the bedroom, fluffy tail held high as it wagged. This place looked a lot like the place where the tall, upright person slept, and yet, it seemed so different as well. He wondered now; were all the rooms like this, or were they different too? He tilted his head at the thought before he exited the bedroom and trotted off to go check out the next one.
Sure enough, the new bedroom that he walked into was the same as the previous; even the smells were the same. It was odd. Why would you have the same room twice? Was it to throw people off if you wanted to hide something? No, no, that couldn't be right. It would still be too easy to find something, especially if it smelled different from everything else.
Disappointed, the pup exited the bedroom and went back toward the first one he went in to.

"Shadow, Shadow where are you?" River began calling out as she started to move into another part of the mansion. This was such a pain. If only she had her sense of smell back, she would probably have a much better time at finding him. But of course, as fate would have it, the magic of this world crippled her in that sense, and now she would have to rely on her sight more than anything. Such a pain this was.
River looked over every single nook and cranny she came by, going into each room she came across just to make sure Shadow wasn't there. It was tiring and exhausting, but if she didn't find that puppy soon, he would get himself into trouble again.
Eventually, she came to the guest bedrooms. Surely, if he wasn't anywhere else, then he would surely be here. He had to be.

River began going into each one of the guest bedrooms, starting the with the farthest one down the hallway first just in case Shadow was going down each one of them. She searched each one thoroughly, looking under the beds, on the beds, behind the beds, under the dressers, on the dressers, and in the closets. For every room save for the first, there was no sign of the pup. If this last room did not have him, then surely that pup was lost for good until he showed up again, or started yelping because he got caught in something.
River carefully opened the door and looked inside, and to her surprise, Shadow was curled up asleep on the bed, and rather comfortably, it seemed. River breathed out a sigh of relief before she came over to the puppy, carefully picked him up, and carried him back to the living room. "Oh, my little Shadow..." she said to the sleeping pup now. "I certainly hope you grow out of this phase of yours.."
