Mariella yawned as she got up and looked out the window of her house. It was a downpour out there. She wondered for a moment how the weather worked here-if she would have to worry about taking Shasta into a small room and huddling down with her before shrugging it off as she began her day.
Shasta was curled up on the rug by her bed. For the short while that she had been a puppy she had liked to curl up directly in the middle of Mar's chest. Every breath the girl took sent the pup bobbing on comfy seas like a ship. However...This wasn't quite nice when she had suddenly grown overnight; the fiero had almost crushed her. She was now the size of a large pony, her head reaching Mariella's shoulder. "Come on, Shasta, wakey wakey..." the girl hummed gently as she pushed the fiero's shoulder.

The warm colored fiero gave a yawn as she uncurled in a swift movement, stretching out her legs and tail. Two dragon-like wings also rose from being held against her fur all night, flexing in the air. Mariella /loved/ those wings. She was always gleeful at the thought that she herself had coaxed this beautiful fiero into her house. The duo-toned blue eyes opened before she took to her paws and walked downstairs, used to a certain order of things.
The girl followed after, sighing at the routine. She began to cook them breakfast on the old wood-stove after setting the wood inside and setting it before she heard quiet snufflings. Shasta had set herself to the door, nose busily working at the air. She figured she had to go to the bathroom; fieros sure were good about keeping their home clean. She opened the door and stared at what was on the front step.

There, clear as day on the wooden plank porch, was a box with a small package, wrapped up in a piece of green cloth, dingy and dusty. "What in the hell is this...?" She uttered as she leaned to pick up the box. It was lined all around with pieces of torn up paper and, upon further inspection, there were words on every piece, seemingly pages torn out of a book. As she turned to go back into the house she caught a few words off seperate pages with quick glances; 'Weasley...Anne...-ger Games...baseball...' Seemingly it wasn't all from the same book. But that wasn't really the focus here.
Shasta stayed on her tail, still working her nose on the scent. Something smelled...different. It smelled important. She hadn't seen anything important when she saw what was in the box. Just a bunch of torn paper and a rolled up cloth.

She sat the box down on the table. "Weird-Wonder who sent us a package, huh girl? Especially on such a dismal day..." Carefully she picked up the bundle. She turned it in her hands; it felt ratty as if it was a baby's blanket that they sucked on. She had a stuffed bunny at home that had a ear almost falling off because of her own sucking experience. She carefully unwrapped the cloth, letting it fall away to the floor before she gasped at what was revealed. It was a pup, curled up so tightly into it's self that it was blazing with heat. It was white and soft green. "Woah-" She uttered before the female went into a frenzy at her legs, trying to get to the pup. Slowly Mariella poked the pup, feeling it's breathing harsh in it's small lungs, heart beating rapidly. "Hey, come on, wake up-!" She said, feeling panic rise from Shasta's reaction. She looked around quickly, urgent for some idea. She had never seen such a thing in her life. What was she supposed to do? She finally spotted a bucket of water that she had brought in for cooking. She acted without much connection consciously. She dashed over to the bucket, probably bruising her knees as she sat in front of it and let the pup dump into the water. Droplets splashed out from over the edges as she let her hands dip in, splashing water at his face. "wake up already...!"
Finally the pup woke with a start, the cool water shocking his heated system. He looked around wildly, feeling the water sop his fur against his hide. His eyesight finally lost the blurryness as he saw two creatures in front of him. An older fiero with her black rimmed face leaned toward him and a human with spikes pertruding from her-What? No...They were on a band around her arms. He began to whimper, letting his paws grip at the rim of the wooden bucket. Where was he?

"Oh, thank god-!" Mariella sighed as she quickly picked the pup up and cradled him against her. The front of her shirt became soaking wet but she didn't care. The pup continued to whimper for a while. What sort of state had he been in? Suddenly he struggled against her and she let him slip down onto the ground. His pawsteps were wobbly as if he hadn't walked in a long time. His paws slipped on the smooth floor, unable to get traction but still he pressed on. He finally made it to what seemed to be his destination-the gnarly green cloth he had been wrapped up in.
He pressed his nose to the fabric-taking in all the scents it held. Everything felt familiar with it and his brain flowed with images like a movie. There was a small lime green feline type creature, a brush of orange butterfly's wings, a tilted halo...

None of these really had any significance, as much as the pup knew, but they felt like they should. The brown-shaded fiero had followed him and he felt the press of her nose against the back of his head. The girl followed after and he let out a little confused whine, calmed down but still antsy of his odd awakening. The girl spoke, "Hey, it's really okay...Shasta's not going to hurt you-neither am I." He didn't understand her words but the nice, gentle voice helped.
She studied the pup for a few moments. "I'm sorry about dunking you, you just wouldn't wake up and I was afraid that..." She trailed off. She was pretty sure even fieros would understand the tone of the word dead. "I guess you're gonna live with us now..." She wondered where the box had come from. Clearly someone had wanted her to have this fiero.

She looked at the box again, confused. Why would someone want to give her a fiero? She had a few friends-this was true, but she doubted that Chess, Xander or that weird monster girl would go to these mysterious odds. She smiled at him. Regardless of any reasoning, the pup really was cute. "Let's get you something good to munch on..." She said, going to the bits of potato and chicken she had chopped up. Or atleast the potato and other vegetables were like the earth-counterparts. She threw them into the pan on the stove and noticed the pup's attention be distracted by the smoky scent.
Soon the two fieros and the girl sat down in the living room with their bowls. The green-ish pup's eyes were wide with wonder at the food in the blue bowl in front of him, before he went to work eating after seeing Shasta do the same. Mariella chuckled as she stabbed a hunk of potato into her mouth with a fork.

"Doesn't seem like you've gotten a warm meal before, little-...guy..." Right. She'd need to get on naming him. She stood up once she was done, throwing her boal into the makeshift sink she had made before going to the blanket and picking it up once again. She saw it was speckled with small white and green hairs, from the pup having been bundled inside it. She turned it over thoughtfully as she looked at the pup then felt a harsh hard something brush her palm. She looked down to see it was a small silver tag attached to it, similiar to what you would see on a dog's collar. It had three letters engraved into it, in swirly but somewhat off-center text; REI. "Rei...?" What did that mean? Was it an acronym for something?
She felt a little pressure against her leg and looked down. The pup was gently prodding at her foot, having finished his food. His wide blue eyed looked at her speculately, as if to ask what was going on.

She looked to the blanket, realizing the pup had recognized it before and tilted her head as she repeated the word engraved on the tag. "Rei?" The pup let out a little bark, leaning his head against her jeans. Shasta obviously hadn't wanted his company while she was still eating. Hm...Rei sounded pretty nice-easy to say too. She wasn't sure why this word was included in the package but smiled and leaned down, carefully picking the pup up. "I guess I can call you Rei..." He was now dried off from his plunge into the bucket and after a short squirm the pup was leaning his head against her chest.
This person was nice...He had a vague memory of someone telling him that strangers were just friends he hadn't met yet. She could be his friend. She and the larger fiero that had finally finished her meal and walked over to check on them, could both be his friends.

Shasta sat by them as Mariella began to rock back and forth, stroking the pup's soft back. Soon small snorts and huffs could be heard from Rei. "Fallen asleep already...?" She tsked lightly as she stood up and walked to her room. The pup bed that Shasta had used was still there, more from Mariella's laziness to take it down than anything else, and she carefully lowered him into the cloth as the rain made a stready pitter patter on the roof.
Rei gave a soft little groan in protest at being released from her arms' warmth as he curled up tighly into the cloth and blankets, smelling the stale leftovers of when Shasta had used it.
"Good boy, Rei..." Mariella smiled as she gave him a few last pats before walking to the living room again. Shasta, however, had other ideas and decided to act as babysitter as she laid on her rug with a sigh. Things were gonna be different.

A week later, Mariella had some difficulty recognizing the light green and white pup from the miserable, confused bundle of fur that was in a box on her doorstep. He seemed to now have some grip on the world around him and he was taking advantage, yipping and wrestling the mature brown female, who could easily dispatch the small pup with one swipe of her paw or wing.
Shasta was having some fun though, her tail flicking as she lay in the tall grass near the house, her gradiented tail lashing behind her like a snake as she'd give a little growl and purr here and there as Rei attacked her from every angle. Maybe he would make a good battler one day.
Rei bounced from side to side, trying to get Shasta to do anything. Even with the older fiero not reacting to him in the slightest, it just egged him on even more to make her react.

(Oh god my first post in MONTHS. I'm sorry. My Summer was batcrap insane and now I think I have a grasp on homework and how college is gonna be. Gonna try for ATLEAST one post a week from now on, if not more! :3)
Finally, Rei leapt up onto his haind legs, batting his paws at Shasta's ears and she turned like a switch, pouncing on the small pup. He let out a squeal which alarmed Mariella.
"Careful, Shasta!" She didn't have to worry about it though. Shasta was holding her weight up, not exerting even half of her power on Rei. Once he realized this, he let out a yip of joy and began kicking his back legs furiously into her stomach. She growled playfully before grabbing a hold of his scruff and pulling him from side to side, the pup squirming lightly, but obviously enjoying this attention from his superior as his tail was wagging in unbridled joy.
Mariella chuckled lightly. It was funny to see the loner, cool Shasta become like a big sister. Kind of...Kind of like when she took Shasta in...She smiled. Whoever brought Rei to them had made a good decision. She smiled brightly as she watched the two fieros play in the mid-summer sunshine.
