Tilda sighed. The world had fallen apart. The dragons were not to be trusted, many fieros had been possessed, and many pups stolen. That didn't matter, not to her. What mattered was she wasn't ready, she wasn't ready to protect her alpha from this. She could care less about everyone else, what she cared about was protecting her alpha. Tilda stopped in the training ground, and turned around to wait for her alpha. Xander caught up, stopping in front of Tilda. Maddy was such a stick in the mud. She had shown up in the middle of the night, and she looked terrible. She begged him to train one of his fieros, she fell to her knees. Xander agreed just to shut her up. Tilda seemed very insist on the idea of training though, so here Xander was. He didn't really want to be here though. Not at all. He supposed it couldn't hurt to train though, he really wanted Tilda to fly, she did have wings after all. He also wanted her to do all sorts of things. It was time to train. (2.3) (184)

Tilda turned to her alpha. She wanted to protect him from the danger of the dragons, but she couldn’t do that, she wasn’t strong enough. Not yet. But she would be. She had to be. Tilda waited, ready for the training to being. Maddy had begged Xander to train… attacks, but attacks were boring, and useless. He supposed they might come in handy, but it wasn’t a concern right now. Of course, Xander wanted Maddy on his good side, so he decided he would train a few attacks, after he had trained what he wanted to train. Xander wasn’t exactly sure what that was. He had noticed Doodles and Tilda didn’t like him touching them, but Xander wanted to pet them that were the main function of a pet, to be petted. So he would train Tilda to let him pet her. “Ok Tilly, I like your fur, it feels nice, but you won’t let me touch it, we have to change that.” Xander informed Tilda. Tilda couldn’t believe her ears. She didn’t have time for that, there would time to play around with pointless training later, right now she needed to know attacks, but it seemed her alpha was set on this. Tilda inwardly sighed. She was just going to have to train what he wanted to train for the time being.

Xander’s plan was just to touch Tilda over and over and over, and then she would let him to that all the time. Of course Doodles wouldn’t, but he could train Doodles later. Then both Tilda and Doodles would cuddle with him like that stray cats he had back on Earth used to. His… older brother told him he shouldn’t pick up stray cat, they were too much work, but Xander liked to cuddle them, even if they were sometimes covered in ticks. The fieros didn’t seem to be covered in ticks though, at least not that Xander had noticed. That was good, Xander didn’t like ticks, and ticks were hard to get off your skin. Xander thought he would probably find out if Tilda had any ticks when he started to pet her, which he supposed he should do now. So he did. He walked right up to the fiero and placed his hand on her.
Tilda flinched away distasted, giving him a glare. She’d rather he not touch her. His touch was strange and foreign. Xander glared back at Tilda. He knew it wasn’t going to be a piece of cake. Yum, cake. (194) (Accept Contact: Continued) (3.0)

Xander had accepted that training was not going to be something that could be done with a snap of the fingers. He was going to have to work at it, but it would be worth it in the end. Tilda was annoyed with her alpha. She had decided she did not want her alpha touching her, but she also came to terms that he was eventually going to, and she would just have to deal with it. She also knew she wasn’t going to let him touch her without a fight. He had to learn he couldn’t get everything he wanted just by asking for it, he had to work for what he wanted. Xander wasn’t fazed by Tilda’s stubbornness. He simply walked up to her and ran his hand through her fur, though his hand didn’t get far because Tilda jumped away. Tilda didn’t want to admit she had enjoyed his hand running through her fur. His hand had gotten close to her ear, and it had felt nice. (170) (Accept Contact: Continued) (3.1)

Xander grinned at Tilda, he could tell through her body movements and the misgivings in her eyes, she had enjoyed that. She wanted to be touched, she wanted to be petted. That was good, that meant it would be easier for her to accept his touch, because she wanted it. Xander walked up to Tilda, tilting his head. “Does it hurt?” he asked softly, “Is that why you don’t want me to touch you? Or is it because…” he trailed off then looked down, “You hate me?” he whispered. Tilda was taken aback by this sudden melancholy, this sudden display of emotions like this. They weren’t fake, they couldn’t be. There weren’t any tears; it was a subtle sadness, one that couldn’t be faked. Her alpha doubted her love for him! Of course she loved him, even if he was an idioit, despite all his many many flaws; she loved the kid, even if they hadn’t known each other for long. Xander went over to her side and buried his head into her fur, softly stroking her back. Tilda closed her eyes, feeling his touch and enjoying it. (189) (Accept Contact: Continued) (3.2)

Tilda just let him pet her, over and over. He stood on his tip toes and tried to reach as high as he could, which wasn’t very high. Tilda was actually enjoying this, her alpha’s touch. She opened her eyes slowly. She knew that this wasn’t very productive, playing around like this. They needed to train attacks, she needed to get stronger, but standing here, feeling her alpha’s hand stroke her back, she was calmed. It was a waste of time, but it was worth it. Completely worth it. Her alpha couldn’t think she hated him now, because she didn’t she never would. Xander wasn’t going to show all his cards, not yet. Of course his little performance wasn’t real; it was just easier than dealing with Tilda being stubborn. He was getting things done, and the feel of Tilda’s fur between his fingers was his reward. He stopped petting her and stepped away. “Thank you Tilly.” Xander whimpered slightly. He gave a slight smile to her. Piece of cake. (170) (Accept Contact: Continue) (3.3)

Xander's hand started moving from Tilda's back to her legs. Tilda became alert. What was he doing? What was he- Oh no, he was not going to touch her legs. That was where she drew the line. She jerked away with a growl. He was not going to touch her willy-nilly just because he felt like it. He could touch her back softly, bury his head into her fur, but she was not going to allow him to touch her anywhere else.
Xander's hand was hovering over air. That probably wasn't a good idea, but he didn't care. Tilly would allow him to pet her all over, whether she liked it or not. It probably wasn't a good idea to use the sad, you hate me card again, not so soon. He would just have to find another way to make her let him pet her all over. She would let him, he had already decided it.

"Pretty please?" Xander asked softly, "I won't hurt you if that's what you think." Xander's hand was still hovering over the place where Tilda use to be. Tilda glared at his hand and at him. She had no intention of letting that hand anywhere near her. She needed her personal space.
Xander sighed, “Pretty, pretty please?" Xander asked again. All he got was a glare in return. Then Xander decided asking nice wasn't going to get him anywhere. So he simply walked over to Tilda and touched her underbelly. Tilda jerked away, growling angrily. Xander backed up quickly, throwing his hands in the air. "I'm sorry~" Xander mumbled, hiding his mischievous grin. “But was it that bad? It wasn’t like I hit you or something!” Xander added defensively. Tilda glared. He had some nerve, he also had guts. Either that or he was very trusting, he trusted her not to retaliate She couldn’t decide which one. (4.0) (Accept Contact: Countinued) (156)

Xander crossed him arms, thinking about the best way to go about this. The direct approach wasn't going to work, she would eventually start avoiding him every time he started coming towards her. Couldn't she just let him pet her and be done with it? What was her problem? Personal space issues probably. No, scratch that definitely. It was tiring. There wasn't much to be done about that though. He sat down on the grass Indian style. No use in standing up.
Tilda tilted her head at him. Was her giving up? Good, because Tilda wasn't having any of that touching business. Of course, if he was just going to sit there it meant no battle training, which wasn't good. She needed him to train her, not just sit there. She had a feeling if she didn't do this he would just give up with training, which was not good. Tilda sighed. She was just going to have to bite the bullet and do this for him.

Tilda walked over to Xander. She then laid down, so they would be level. He was so tiny, it was almost funny. He looked at her confused. She hoped he would be gentle, and not pull on her hair or something stupid like that. She just wanted to get this over with.
'Well this is kind of...weird' Xander thought, taking note of it. It was an invitation to pet her. He tried to figure put the reasons for it, then decided he could analyze her later. He didn't wait any longer; he took his hand and started petting her legs, gently. She flinched but didn't pull away.
Tilda realized it wasn't as bad as she thought it was going to be. She closed her eyes as he petted each of her legs. It was actually relaxing. She hadn’t expected that, but she was actually grateful for enjoying his touch. She didn’t mind this at all. (155) (4.2) (Accept Contact: Countinued)

This was going better than expected. Xander noted this, it would be useful information. Then Xander moved his hand slowly to Tilda’s paws. He was surprised she didn’t jump, she simply whined a little before letting him rub her pads. She moved her head uncomfortably as he tickled her feet. This was very, very interesting. He did that with each one of her paws before moving his hand to her neck. He petted her all over her face. Tilda jerked around a bit, but soon became calm, and even leaned into his hand. He moved from her face to her chest. He could feel her breathing, her heart beat. Thud thud thud. She didn’t seem to object to that. He then moved his hand to her underbelly. She growled and moved uncomfortably. She didn’t like that. “Come on, it can’t hurt!” Xander whined, not withdrawing his hand. Tilda sighed. It didn’t hurt, his touch didn’t hurt, which was why she was allowing him to do this. But her stomach? It did feel nice… and it wasn’t as if he was hurting her. She relaxed her muscles. It wasn’t that bad. Then he moved his hand to her tail. Was nothing scared? She glared at him as he stroked her tail, but she didn’t pull away. It felt, odd, but not bad. After a bit of him stroking her tail, she realized she actually enjoyed it. He pulled his hand away and smiled at her. “Was that really that bad?” he asked grinning. He got up and made a show of dusting himself off. Tilda got up too, and stretched her neck. No, she guessed it really wasn’t that bad. (279) (Accept Contact: Finished) (4.3)

Tilda was ready to start now. She was ready to learn attacks; she was ready to stop playing around. Xander, however, was not ready to teach attacks, not yet. That would be boring. He had realized that Tilda didn’t know her name, and that would not do. He wanted Tilda to respond to her name, so he would have to teach her, actually teach her. He wouldn’t be able to give her sad eyes and get what he wanted this time. That was fine, it was just a name. “Ok Tilly, you don’t know that Tilly is your name, so I have to teach you that it is.” Xander explained. Tilda was annoyed. No, not this again. Why didn’t her alpha understand they didn’t have time to be playing around? What did a name matter? She already knew her name, it was a delightful scent, and it was pointless to learn something she already knew. (155) (Accept Name: Started) (4.4)

Xander rocked on his feet absent mindedly. This was beginning to get boring. What purpose did Tilly knowing her name serve anyway? It had seemed like a good idea a few minutes ago, but now Xander just saw it as pointless work. Then Xander thought what else would he teach Tilly? Attacks? No, he could do that later, because later was better than now, and Xander didn’t want to train attacks either. “Tilly.” Xander randomly blurted, getting no reaction from Tilda. “You.” Xander demanded, poking Tilda. “You are Tilly, that’s you, ok? Tilly?” Xander told her impatiently. Tilda tilted her head at Xander. They didn’t have time for this! Why couldn’t he get that through his thick skull? He needed to train her attacks. He needed to do that right now. Not play around saying pointless sounds and doing nothing productive. “Tilly, Tilly, Tilly” Xander repeated over and over and over, thinking maybe that would make a difference. It just made Tilda more annoyed. (Accept Name: Continued) (164) (5.0)

Xander was really sick of saying Tilly, Xander was really sick of the outside, and the sun shining on his face and the breeze ruffling his hair. Xander was really sick of Tilda ignoring him with a defiant glare. Xander was sick of training, Xander was sick of things not falling into place easily, like they use to when he lived on Earth before… Before things stopped falling into place. When things started to break and the pieces started to shatter and when Xander picked them up, desperately trying to put them back together, they would cut him, make his hand bleed and bleed. Xander would try to make it stop, he would try to make everything better, but it didn’t work. His hands were red, the picture he had so easily made before was destroyed, and he couldn’t put it back together again. Tilda noticed Xander had ceased saying the one sound over and over, he had ceased saying anything. Tilda tilted her head worriedly. He didn’t look like anything was wrong or even like he was deep in thought, perhaps he was just catching his breath from the stream of stupidly that he had been using it for. “Tilly,” Xander started again. Tilda noted how he sounded just the same, it was nothing. Tilda just blinked at him though. Pointless noise, nothing to get excited about. “Tilly, Tilly, your name is Tilly. Tilly. That’s you, that’s what I call you by, Tilly.” Xander urged, pointed at Tilda. She was going to get this. She was, and then he could get all the pieces together and make a new picture. A better one, it had to be a better one.

Tilda sighed. She was just going to give up. She would play her alpha’s little game, since he see, so dead set on it. It would make him happy if she learned what he wanted her to learn; it wouldn’t make her happy though. She wanted, no she needed to learn attacks. She needed to be able to protect him, his happiness meant nothing if he was dead. Tilda would learn this, just this once, then after this she would put her paw down. She would refuse to learn anymore of his pointless tricks. “Tilly, that’s your name, Tilly, Tilly, Tilly.” Xander droned on. A name, so this was her’s, this noise. That was a strange concept. Someone was a scent, not a name. Tilly, that was the noise that was her. Tilly. It was too outlandish and foreign to her. “Tilly, Til-ly” Xander kept on, now just a mere background noise to Tilda’s thoughts. (155) (Accept Name: Continued) (5.2)
