You drag the backpack out from under your bed. There's other things in it too, but you leave them there. You place the notebooks, your tablet and pen, and your laptop in the backpack and sling it across your shoulder.

You lean a little out of the open window and look down out the window. Your room is on the ground floor, so it isn't that far. There is a teenager pressed against the side of your house looking outwards at the road. She looks up and waves.
"Hell no." You try to say as calmly as possible. "You are not who I think you are."
"Salki's keeping lookout." The girl gestures at another teenager standing at the corner of a street.
"Get off my lawn, Tiger." What is she even doing here? She should be back in Minnesota or wherever.
Tiger backs away from the wall and sits crosslegged on the grass. She pulls a suitcase into her lap. "Winter, listen to me. They haven't found you yet, but they will. We need to leave now, okay?"
"Tiger, I-"
"Get out of the house. Go pack light."
"I'm already packed."
"Coolio. Let's go, then. SALKI!!" Coolio?
You climb out the window and flop down onto the lawn. "I still don't condone this. What's happening."
"I'll tell you on the way to Maddy. We have to move quick. We just robbed a bank."
"You just- Maddy- huh?"
"SALKII!!"
The girl on the street corner turns and put a finger to her lip, shushing Tiger. Tiger glances at you, gets up, and together you sneak to Salki.
Already, people are streaming into your house.
