It had been a good long time since Dragon had seen Vera truly happy. Yes, there were points in time where she was happy, but Dragon always knew there was something else lingering under the smiling and laughing she did. Finally, after so long, she had seen Vera experience true happiness. What Dragon was not counting on, however, was a puppy. Yes, Vera, the one Fiero that she had never expected to become a parent, came home with a puppy. Dragon did not know what to think as she held the puppy in her arms as she sat down on her sofa. The puppy was a boy, and almost as soon as Vera brought it home, she could tell immediately who the father could have been. Why? Because of the dorsal stripe, which was a brilliant pale silver against the black and dark grey. (Word Count: 152) (Level 1 1/5)

The dorsal stripe seemed to be sort of like a genetic blueprint for one Fiero in particular: Zephyr, and it made sense for such to be. The dorsal stripe has been a common sight in his pups; at least one puppy per litter had the stripe, if not in wine-red like his, then in some other color from the parents.
The puppy was Zephyr's, that much was for certain. But then, Dragon had to wonder: was Zephyr the reason for why Vera's been so happy lately? It wasn't uncommon for Zephyr to be here, not only did he live practically next door, but he had family here too. And well, now he had more family here.
Still, it sounded sort of ironic to Dragon; during the war with the dragon mother, Zephyr had fought against Vera not once, but twice. Both times they were equal in strength, and both times Zephyr managed to come out on top. And now he apparently added her to his little harem.

Well, it was not like Dragon was complaining. She was glad to see Vera in such good spirits since the end of that damned war, even if it ended in yet another puppy to take care of until it grew up.
The puppy yawned as it stretched his legs out and curled back up. So far, the puppy seemed rather healthy with no real hint of problems, but that was just because he was a still a puppy. Who knew what kind of issues he had when he started growing up? For all Dragon knew, the puppy could have breathing problems, sight problems, something else that could be problematic... And it bugged her a bit that she would not be able to know until he grew up.
Since it was Vera's child, Dragon was expecting the pup to start growing into a form that would be a reflection of his adult form, or at least, face wise anyway.

Perhaps the puppy just has not yet reached that "prime age" at which it will be able to express those specific traits. Dragon knew that there were only two stages of life for Fieros: there was puppy, and then there was adult. However, Vera had proven to her that there could be a hidden "in between" stage, one that most do not know too much about because they've never seen it for themselves, or perhaps it only works on certain traits, like in Vera's case. Who knows?
Right now though, Dragon couldn't worry about that. She had to help Vera raise this puppy to his adult form so Vera could help her in teaching him the ways of the pack; how to fight, how to hunt, and other things like that. Of course there were things that Dragon would need to work with him for, but at this point, that didn't quite matter.

Dragon suddenly felt a slight pinch on her arm, and she looked down to see that the pup was suddenly gnawing on her arm, his tail wagging. "Are you hungry?" Dragon asked, thinking that perhaps it was already time to feed the pup again. It had only been half an hour or so since she last fed him, but growing puppies need to eat a lot in order to grow healthy, and that also meant frequent feedings.
When the puppy glanced up at her, he bit down on Dragon's arm a little harder, yapped at her, and then jumped off of her lap and ran away toward the bedroom, yapping excitedly. Then, after a few seconds, he ran back over to Dragon, play bowed at her with a yap, and then he ran all the way back to the bed room. He repeated this process a few times.

"Oh ho, you want to play, do ya?" Dragon said with a grin as she stood up. The puppy came back another time and yapped at her again, his lips curled up into a playful grin. "Okay, you asked for it!" Dragon grinned as she now chased after the puppy. The pup yapped again as he ran away, his tail wagging faster than he could run, almost spinning like some sort of fan or something like that.
It was a good thing that the floor was practically carpet for most of the house, since had it been entirely hard wood or laminate, they both would be slipping and sliding all over the place. The puppy ran back into the bedroom and hopped on the bed before he hopped down as Dragon jumped onto it, and he ran out of the bedroom again. Dragon chased after him. "I'm gonna get you!"

The pup yapped at her in response as he continued running away. Dragon chased up and down the hallways, with the pup always being one step ahead of her, mostly because even though she was in a playful mood, she did not want to take the chance of possibly knocking something over accidentally. Even though she cared about her Fiero pack and keeping them happy no matter what, she also cared greatly about her possessions, and some of them were delicate enough to break if they fell, and those could be a hazard on their own.
Eventually the puppy managed to squeeze itself underneath the sofa, to where Dragon sadly could not get to him; she could only get down enough to stick her arm in there, and the pup kept changing position to where she couldn't reach him.
"Ah, damn you..." Dragon said with a faint grin before she gave up trying to grab for him and sat up. "Okay you little rascal," she said. "You win this time."

The puppy poked his head out from underneath the sofa before he looked up at his alpha, tilting his head to one side. Wait, it was over? She wasn't going to play with him anymore today? He sort of hated it when she made those sounds, because that usually meant that she didn't want to play anymore. He wanted to play more though! He wasn't done yet.
Dragon looked down at the puppy as he crawled out from under the sofa looking all sad. "What, you wanna play some more?" she asked. The puppy ran off again, but this time when he came back he was holding a rope toy in his mouth. Surely this would get his alpha to play with him some more. Of course he could always go and bug Mom and see if she wanted to play with him, but he knew she couldn't play for too long because she sometimes got tired easily, and she was always trying to encourage him to play with the alpha more anyway.

"Oh, you wanna play some tug-o-war?" Dragon asked now with a faint grin. This puppy was full of energy, that was for sure. But then again, weren't they all?
Dragon grabbed the free end of the rope toy before she began pulling back on it, and this caused the puppy to begin pulling back as well. Of course Dragon was the stronger of the two, but she was trying to play fair so she could keep the puppy entertained at least until he grew tired. That was usually the goal when it came to playing with Fiero puppies. You played with them until they grew tired of it, and usually that was enough to get them to grow up.
Dragon moved her arm to one side, dragging the rope toy with her, and in turn dragging the pup to the side as well. Then she just as quickly jerked her arm the other way, making the puppy jump a little bit to keep up with the rope toy.

After keeping this up for a couple minutes, and thankfully so because Dragon's arm was getting tired, the puppy let go of the toy with a yawn and flopped down onto his belly, panting. Dragon set the rope toy down and took the puppy in her arms again. "You getting tired little one?" she asked now. The puppy didn't answer as he curled up in her arms.
Dragon smiled. "You know what?" she said now. "I still need to give you a name."
Names were a funny thing. You always wanted to have a name that was short and easy to remember, but at the same time you wanted it to have meaning that made sense. That's why names and titles are near impossible to come up with unless you know basic meanings of names.
Dragon thought for awhile on this, trying to come up with a good one for the pup. A masculine name because the pup was a male, obviously, a name that matched his personality or some part of his appearance, a name that was easy to remember.
"Aha!" Dragon exclaimed now with a grin, making the pup jolt a little and look up at her. "How about I call you Ginshima! It definitely matches that stripe of yours, huh?"
Ginshima tilted his head at her, wondering just what it was she was blabbering about before he laid his head on her lap and yawned. Dragon smiled faintly before she carried him over to the door that led into the Fiero den. "I'll let you sleep with your mom tonight, I think..." she said as she walked in, closing the door behind her. "Can't wait to see what happens when you grow."
